ASCS Gulf Coast opener tonight on Racinboys Radio

Beaumont, TX - March 04, 2011
By: RacingIn.com

The ASCS Gulf South Region kicks off this weekend in Texas and Racinboys Radio has Live coverage both Friday and Saturday night. Action gets underway tonight (Friday, March 4) at 8:00 p.m. from Golden Triangle Raceway Park just outside of Beaumont, and concludes Saturday March 5 at 7:00 from Battleground Speedway in Highlands.

Scott Traylor anchors the weekend coverage with Rob Klepper on the call and Scotty Cook reporting from the pits and victory circle.

Ray Allen Kulhanek of Montgomery, TX, will kick off his defense of the ASCS Gulf South Region championship this weekend after outlasting Clute's Aaron Reutzel and Conroe's Tommy Bryant for the 2010 title. It was Kulhanek's second Gulf South title after claiming the top spot as well in 2005.

While Kulhanek reigns as defending ASCS Gulf South champion, the balance of last year's top ten in points included Reutzel, Bryant, two-time series champion Brandon Berryman, Travis Elliott, Chris Sweeney, Wes Miller, Scottie McDonald, Logan Bledsoe and Beau Smith with veteran contenders Greg Rilat and 2006 champion Gary Watson just outside the top ten.

Channin Tankersley, Travis Elliot, Chris Sweeney, and a couple others should be making a push for this year's championship. Once the cherry pickers leave to race the National tour, there could be half a dozen cars in the mix.
