Woodward’s Brandon Kenny conquered the competitive modified 20-car field with a flawless victory run in the green all the way main event at Enid Speedway Park Saturday night.
“Once I got into lapped traffic my tire blistered and I had to work a lot harder,” said Kenny. “It was great to see four Kraft cars in the top five. I have to thank my crew, Claude Roach and Jeff and Cody Kenny.”
Kenny guided his Boomer Well Service/Midwest Refrigeration- sponsored Kraft chassis off the pole and wasted no time in setting up a 10-car length advantage He steadily increased the lead to the finish line.
Kip Hughes captured second, trailed by Joe Adams, Darren Hacker and DereckRamirez.
Lance “The Wild Child” Sessions, making his season debut in street stock, won the A feature aboard his father’s Longdale Stop and Go sponsored-Chevy. He had won two races previously in factory stock.
”Platinum Motorsports bought my factory stock last week, so I raced my dad’s car tonight,” said Sessions. “It doesn’t matter, just give me a car and I’ll drive it. My dad built a heck of a car and it was fun.’’
A caution waved on the start of the race as Kenny “The Iron Man’’ Morris spun and came to a rest in turn four. Another yellow flag flew as Travis King lost shape in turn two on the restart. A botched restart put the race back under caution for a third time.
Mark Smith sprinted away when the track finally went green with Sessions on his bumper. Sessions took the advantage the second time around and set up a straight-away lead in a mere two laps.
Sessions had a nearly half-a-lap lead when Rick Misener spun in turn three and brought another yellow in lap 11.
Sessions overcame two other cautions to the finish line. Smith held onto second with A.J. Brochu, Tyler Scruggs and Ryan Bohnstedt rounding out the top five.
Sharon’s Nick Shenberger, 16, found the trip to Enid profitable as he piloted his Boomer Oil Service/Woodward Diesel-sponsored car to his first limited modified “A” feature win of the year.
Shenberger took the lead on lap nine. In spite of a lap 10 caution, Shenberger took a 10-car length lead to the finish. John Hoeltzel settled for second, trailed by Scott Parli, Randy Miller and Ricky Austin.
Parli and Miller were disqualified in the post race tech inspection which saw Jesse Canaan and Jason Gerhard move into the top five.
John Whitley dominated in factory stock with a solid run in the 20-lap feature. He took the lead in the third lap and raced to the line.
Kenny Adams posted second followed by Justin Scott, Walter O’Dell and Maddox.
Pure stock winner Willis Adams was disqualified in the post race tech inspection, which saw Michael Meeks inherit the win. Jason Schechter, Tommy Bohnstedt and Tracy Meeks trailed at the line.
Meeks and Bohnstedt were disqualified for failing to make weight at the scales in the tech inspection.
Heat winners in modified were Hughes, Ramirez and Bud Longpine. Smith and Longpine won their heats in street stock. Hoeltzel, Parli and Cleo Adams won heats in limited modified. Factory stock heat winners were Scott and Whitley. Adams won in pure stock.
Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be 7 p.m. Saturday.
