Anyone know the King of the West heat race format? The past few years with GSC the heats were snoozers with very little at stake and very little action.

Maybe they should adopt the WoO rules with inverting the top 4 and top 2 make the dash (in each heat). This would definetly provide action!

The heat winners and next so many fastest qualifiers will make the dash, which has eight cars just as before.

In a 4 heat race format the dash will be made up of the 4 heat winners and the top-four fastest qualifiers that transfer

In a 3 heat race format the dash be the 3 heat winners and the top-five fastest qualifiers that transfer.

So they will invert top four in each heat? If so, the new format is awesome.

OSF... usually right with you on things... but this makes for some poor racing in the heats...

little probability of exciting charges in the heats.... new fans want to see excitement from the first race on.... veteran sprint car fans... may as well stay in the paring lot until the main....

This will provide excitment ...much better than past heat race format. The old format had invert of top six and top five transfer. Once you were in the top five, you just rode around. Dan Simpson even won a heat race it that tells you anything.

The new format, with the invert of four and winner making it to the dash, the 2nd row of the heat will be charging like hell to win the heat for the dash spot.

only the first 3 cars will be racing for the heat win and not the fourth. The fast qualifier out of each heat has no reason to race since they are already locked in to the dash. Also everyone will already be locked in the main much like last year because there will only be 2-3 races where they will have to run a B main.

i don't know about not having enough cars for a B main. everyone i have talked to that has a 410 says they are going to run the deal. even a lot of guys who have 410's who also have 360's are saying they will run the KWS as their series of choice.

if you give heat race points, you give guys a reason to race to the front, no matter if they are in the dash already. give qualifying points to keep guys from trying to qualify on the front row of the heats. if you invert four cars for the heats, then take two to the dash. if you have four heats you have an eight car dash. if you have three heats you have a six car dash. line the main up with the dash cars up front but inverted from their dash finish. give points for the dash so guys won't sandbag in the dash.

i am not one to cater to the fast cars. they already have an advantage because they are fast. make them race, and make them race EVERY race. make the fast cars have to put on a show for the fans. make it so you don't have the same damn 5 fast cars up front at the start of every main event.

but hey, it's not my series.

actually if it was mine i'd make the top 5 cars in points after the first 5 races start in the back of the main no matter what. every week after that the top five in points would start in the back of the main. no matter if they won the dash. if you are in the top 5 in the points chase, you line up in the back, high point guy last, then what ever cars from the B. if you miss the main and have to come from the B, you line up behind the main even cars. no getting your time back.

I will definitely give it a shot... given the winner something is good... but i dont think the kow has the depth of quality cars to run a woo format (which i dont like either)....if you dont qualify in the top 16 (4 heats) ... your chances are loooooong... not good... just eliminated maybe half the field (or more hopefully) ...in qualifying...

Has anyone ever heard of a format that wasn't met with a little criticism? We are racing after all, and this rewards those who go fast.

yea... but the format can really effect the racing and thus entertainment value of a race...especially to new fans.... i have a long held theory that central PA has had successful 410 sprint car racing for years, due to the format that most of the tracks use... used to invert 16 (like NARC did)... many tracks have changed to 12... but it makes for good racing... brings fans back...more fans keeps promoters happy... happy promoters ... make bigger racers.... most of the races i go to i see a lot of old sprint car fans... not a lot of young new fans...

Isnt it called the KWS - KING of the WEST SPRINT Car Series and not KOW... Let's start calling it the correct name. It's like referring you to Oakland Nascar Fan... wink wink

Looking forward to the new KWS series and hope we all come out and support it. Cant be any worst then what it has been the past few years.
