I think it was a good race...for taxicabs All kidding aside, from a technical point of view it was one of the most interesting races I think I have ever seen. The adaptability of racers is really amazing, and it was on display for all to see. Teams were having new radiators flown in, cooling systems were being re-engineered on the spot. The redesign of the radio systems was amazing, multi channel radios sprouted into existence overnight. Drivers were talking to each other and plotting strategy on the fly during the race itself. And I don't care what anyone says, the trust and skill to have those 3,500lb mechanical antiques push each other around the track at 200+mph and actually RACE other pairs of cars was really something.
Of course, having said all of that the rumbling heard during the race was Curtis Turner, Fireball, etc spinning in their graves. If you had walked around the garage area back in the day talking about "dancing partners"..."waltzing".."prom date", et all, many things would have happened to you, none of them pleasant. Sort of like the roll cage/wing thing.Or the lack of a roll cage for that matter. Each era, the drivers and the cars are different and unique, yet bound together with similar strands, its what makes our sport the greatest!

I enjoyed the hell out of ol bobby labonte taking a shot at the win. I have been a labonte brothers fan for years. I hope and pray he returns to glory this year. Time will tell. And congrats to the rookie.

I'll always remember Bobby dominating at Atlanta in Gibbs' car. He was the man there at one time. We know Yeley replaced him but that was the end of a good pairing when Bobby left.
They're replaying the 500 tomorrow at 12 eastern on Speed. I haven't recorded it in a few years but I think I will this time.

Not to mention it was cool to see Dave Blaney even lead it at one point.

Oh i can't wait for Atlanta this year. I'm off work and looking forward to Phoenix Sunday and i don't really care for that track. It's easy to be lucky at Daytona so now we will see who has a good team.

Im more disappointed they are going to ruin PIR after this weekend (repave, widen front stretch, add banking in corners and reconfigure back stretch)...... We need these one off tracks. Before long Chicagoland and Kansas City are going to have the oldest surfaces and best races....

Rockingham was a grand jewel that they dropped for the cookie cutter tracks. The Rock was by all means a racers track. Those last few races were some of the best they ran there. Multi grooves to run on and you had to manage your tires to be in contention.
Daytona is over so we can go back to bashing NASCAR now.

Typical demolition derby and lots of no names in the top five or ten. Bayne, over the hill Labonte, Gilliland, Reagan Smith--love the guy, should have had a win but stolen by Nascar, etc. Should have spent that two million paving money on turning the track into a mile and a half. Restrictor-plate races suck. Drivers have little input, but they no don't dare say that anymore. Its a no no. France told them "we can get along just fine without you", so no one dares say like Martin and Smoke did a couple years ago, like a Sunday drive on the freeway, just hold her to the floor and hope you don't get caught in one of the big ones.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

A little more than two mil for paving. Also the Frances have always told the drivers, and everyone else, "We can get along just fine without you". You want to race? Shut up and race." That is nothing new. I think the drivers this year pretty much said what they thought though. They said you could drive around with a cup of coffee on your lap and not spill it. Jr said it was boring when you weren't two by two. They pretty much said it was so smooth and so hooked up it was easy to run the track.

You mean David Ragan. Regan Smith was caught up in a wreck a few cautions earlier. He was doing good before that though.

The surface will age, and the racing will change. Give it time.
