JJ Yeley just raced his way into the 500 in the first 125 qualifier that ended a few minutes ago.

That is great to see him make the 500 .. I just hope that the car owner does not make it a start and park thing and let's him race the whole race. Either way good luck JJ hope you have a great year .

As long as they have fuel and tires, he'll be out there as long as the car last's.

And a pit crew. Many of the "Start and Park" teams don't even bother bringing enough people for a pit crew.

With a full crew and all that go with, it cost's $200,000 min for a 500 mile race.

I'd rather not think that way. He seemed pretty excited about making the show. So did the car owner. Hope he does real well.

They changed the rule on that several years ago. I think it was Morgan Shepard who tried to run a race with no crew at all. Someone decided that it wasn't good to be that obvious about start/park so they made it a requirement that to start the race you had to have a crew. I seem to recall someone wasn't allowed to start at Pocono?Milwaukee? a few years ago because their crew wasn't on the premises yet.

Start and Park is exactly what they will do. The team is very underfunded and they cant afford to lose a car. Im a JJ fan through and through, but he can only do what the car/team can put out.

He is so lucky that a car blew in the qualifier. That got him back on the lead lap to even have a shot. When you get lapped in 50+ laps, you ain't got nothing to work with. My best guess is they will run 40-45 laps, if that much.

JJ and Blaney might pull in together and go find a dirt race that night wink

Last year's race paid Joe Nemechek $261,000 for 43rd (last) place. Paul Menard collected $294,000 for 13th. If you can't run up front then start and park makes sense financially.

Last year JJ's team posted on their web site that if you bought a set of tires for them you could be a co-sponsor, and receive a bunch of perks at the track.

That's just crazy! Absolutely no reason to risk a car for that difference unless you're running for points!

$350-$450 apiece. They mentioned all the big time benefits you would receive as a cosponsor, and it was no joke.

That might not be a bad deal for my small business. If you see that next year let me know.

JJ tweeted (somehow that just doesn't sound quite right)

So far we have secured some new sponsors for the Daytona 500, we will run the whole race and give it our best shot at finishing good.

Noticed J. J. was running some laps this morning paired up with the 77 car. Almost looks like he has some foolish notion he might be able to do some good tomorrow. Maybe he should have checked with SCRAfan message board before he started burning up all that money for no good reason.

Like I said, "As long as they have fuel and tires, he'll be out there as long as the car last's.", and it looks like they'll have them.

Sam hooked up with JJ. I like it.

Thought I saw a couple of new stickers on the car. I'm pulling for him to get a good finish.

"But in one split second, a shattering of parts and pieces changed everything. Michael McDowell's blown engine enabled Yeley to get his lap back. Pitting for fuel and four fresh tires, the No. 46 timed the restart perfectly, blew by the NEMCO Motorsports duo and held on to steal Conway's spot in the 500 from under their noses."

"It's been a long road back," said Yeley, who just 16 months ago suffered a serious neck injury at Lakeside Speedway, a dirt track disaster that once threatened to permanently derail his racing career. "In this sport, if you're not in clear view, you can easily get forgotten. That's what I started to feel like ... running well, I hope, is opening eyes and showing that I still have the ability."
