$4100 to WIN at Hagerstown Speedway
The Steel Block Bandits
event at Hagerstown Speedway on April 30th is now $4100 to win/$200 to
start. The Kerr family from Winchester Virginia has elected to help
with the overall winnings for this event. In return this race will be
known as the Greg Kerr Memorial.
Within this event you will see Time Trials, Heats, Dash for Cash, B-Mains and a 30 Lap Feature!!
“With the location of Hagerstown Speedway and the respect that
the fans and drivers have for Hagerstown, this could be the biggest
steel block late model event in the history of any track on the east
coast”, series promoter Danny Wilson. “I would personally like to thank
Hagerstown Speedway and the Greg Kerr Family for making this happen.
Greg was an outstanding man and an even better father & husband."
Gregory Kerr was a man that would do anything for anyone! Greg
was known by many as a hard working, giving, family man. In 1997, he
took his sons Tanner who was 6 at the time, and Gunner who was 3 at the
time to their first dirt track race at the Winchester Speedway. After
that, it was an every weekend thing. Greg knew that night that Tanner
had found his passion, and knew that he one day wanted to become a late
model driver!
Every weekend after that, you could find Greg and his two sons
at a racetrack one, two, three, sometimes four days a week all over the
east coast. Greg was the kind of man that wanted to spend time with
his family going to sporting events, and going to the races rather than
spend his time on the golf course with his buddies. In, 2007, the
family decided to start racing quarter midgets at the Hagerstown
Quarter Midget Track.
In 2008, Tanner and Gunner’s little sister Ann Bailey started
racing quarter midgets with the family. Racing was a sport, that the
family could spend a lot of time together, working on the cars, to
traveling to races, to just being at the track together.
In 2009, Greg and his family traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana
for the Quarter Midget Dirt Grands where both Gunner and Ann Bailey
placed very well in their A-Mains. 2009 was a moving up year for
Tanner, who competed in the 4cylinder class at Winchester and Hesston
Speedways.
Just three weeks after the family returned from Indiana, Greg was
killed in an auto accident in Pennsylvania. With the incredible
support of the racing community, the family was able to continue racing
in Greg’s honor and memory and also with an incredible group of
sponsors, Tanner was able to move up and compete in the limited late
model division, a dream he and Greg had since Tanner was 6 years old!
Although Greg is no longer with us, anyone who knew him knew how much he
loved his family, his friends, and his racing! Greg was the kind of
person everyone should try to be, the kind of person that would give or
do anything for anyone!
