I'm hoping that maybe someone out there can help me identify these cars. The only information I have on them is the date and location they were taken.

This photo was taken in Chariton, IA. in 1951. As you can see, they were advertising the local "jalopy" races.

Chariton, IA., 1951

I tried searching Sappo on the Internet, but came up empty. Chariton, IA., 1951

Des Moines, IA. May 26, 1951

Knoxville, IA., June 1952

Knoxville, June 1952. I have a first name of Don written on the back of this photo, but no last name.

Knoxville - June, 1952
Thanks for any ideas anyone might have.

Great photos. The home built Hot Rods in your photos were popular about ten years before I started going to the races but my dad loved them and was still talking about how great they were. By the time I started going the Supermodified coupes had taken over and the Sprints had roll bars behind the driver's head. I remember seeing Offys and even a couple cars with Ranger Aircraft engines but by that time most racers were making the transition to the Chevy V8's with the chrome injector stacks.

The #3 roadster is probably Ed Parmenter of Marshalltown, Iowa. The car was powered by a straight 8 Buick engine. The #2 roadster on the trailer could be Bobby Van Hossen. Both of these cars ran with an organizaton called Central Iowa Racing Association CIRA and they ran at Guthrie Center, Carroll and Pioneer in Des Moines. The #33 'big car' could be Red Hoyle as I remember watching him but at the time I thought the car had an Offenhouser engine. The engine in the photo is obviously a Ranger. Waiting for answers from Bob Mays!!!!! Again thank you for your continued posting of these marvelous old photos.
