This is a great question.

I hope that everyone is in a position to at least try, but even that can be impossible given todays enviroment.

I'm sure #'s will change but last time I checked out Knoxville's drivers list there were more 410's (22?) than 360's.

If this gas goes higher than it is now car counts are going to suck Im afraid........The economy is almost in the tank now and fuel prices dont go down look out. Who is going to be able to go just to watch (fans) that alone fund a team. Sure glad BHO is on top of this deal???*###ker

As fans we may have to be happy with 20 cars in the pits. If it's sprint cars I will still be happy.

I will be starting my sprint car driving career this year. I will race with the UMSS sprint car series out of Minnesota. Their website is www.umsprints.com. We are a brand new team and will use the number 15. Ever since watching sprints race at the old half-mile in West Fargo, I knew I wanted to race sprint cars. Thanks to the UMSS I have that chance.

Just a guess, and car counts depends alot on when and where as well.....

410 show Average 18-22 cars

360 show Average 24-26 cars

I look for only about 12 regulars on the World of Outlaws trail and more around 15 on the ASCS trail. I think you will see the average car count for the Outlaws down to around 25, 30 for the ASCS. I work for Sherwin Williams and I see the WoO kinda like my employer...they are pricing themselves right out of business. We had 6 price increases last year and already 1 this year so far...have more painters leaving our store for local paint companies...just not smart with the economy the shape it is in right now.

"The wait for $150 oil won't be long. Our latest report shows that it's due to hit by July of this year.
That means roughly $4.50 for a gallon of gas - and huge windfalls for OPEC and Big Oil" . Everyone get ready this could be bad.

Wasn`t it about 2007 when the world of outlaws stated the season out with 24 teams. It was down to 18 or so by the end of the year. Low car count have been happening for the last eight to ten years. The outlaws have 11 depending on what ben gregg does. The season starts in two weeks and i have not seen where he is coming out or not.

The Knoxville web site is not up to date. The #54 that Bryan Dobesh drove last year in the 360's will be driven by Casey Friedrichsen this year. Casey is the 2010 Midwest 305 Champion and will be going for the "Rookie of the Year" at Knoxville in the potent Boyd and Lisa Burnham Maxim.

Chad Patterson, try to make it to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks a couple times this year. They average twenty 410 sprints every Friday nite and 20 unlimited late models. Afraid gas is moving up. The boys in D.C. who hate oil and coal and atomic energy(but love bicycles w/helmets) are still "reviewing" and double checking the American oil dereks on the coast, so that ain't helping. They have not pumped for a long time, but China, Russia, Cuba, etc are all going pumping and putting up more dereks. Jee, if there is a big airplane crash, we gonna stop flying for a couple years? Azzhole in charge!

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

China and their comrades like TripleX are the ones driving oil prices through the roof. Other natural resources and food are sky rocketing as well. Only silver lining is it will be cheaper to manufacturer in the states than ship halfway around the world before long.

Racing seems to be going like the country, there is a growing disconnect between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'. This past season we went to New Smyrna for the TBARA show. They had 24 cars. The track was running three of its local classes, a limited late model, and a couple of street stock based classes. There were 5 limited's, 8 street stocks and I seem to remember either 6 or 8 cars in the other stock class. The point is, that the total number of local cars combined did not total the number of traveling Sprinters. The crowd was at best poor, just above the disaster stage I think. We went to Mobile later in the year and saw the same thing. Lots of Sprinters and the season ending championship for one of the stock classes had 12 cars, with a lot of empty seats to boot. Same thing at Pensacola, plenty of high dollar sprinters, but the support classes were non existent.

Those classes are the backbone of the entire sport. They are the working man's classes. And those are the guys who are hurting big time. Their hours are being cut, as are their benifits. This is affecting racing accross the country, both in the pits and in the stands. And thats who the price of gas is going to kick right in the you know what. Its all about the economy, and as the middle class continues to take hit after hit, the racing gets affected to different degrees depending on where one is on the economic food chain. Assuming that no real economic magic bullet is going to come along and that the price of fuel will keep inching up, I personally think that the downward slide is going to continue in attendence, and the car count will contine to eat itself from the bottom up. I think that the big races are going to have great crowds and car counts, ala the Knoxville Nationals. Speaking personally that is our big vacation, so we scrimp, save and cut back in other places....like attending some shows at East Bay, for instance. Or passing up some Pavement races. just my 2¢......

Even the highest weekly show 410 Sprintcar count on earth's car count is down, Parramatta Speedway has gone from 50-60 410's a week to averaging 40 or less.
