Who would like to explain to me what the sprint hoof fire suit option is, cause it sounds to me like the disability you receive from the driveline exploding. The guy at Simpson couldn't explain it. I asked him where I could find a picture of it on their site but they don't have one. He said there's a picture of Jason Johnson a couple issues back in SC&M Magazine wearing them. I remember noticing it when I read it. I guess my question is if they're worth having. Who uses them and do you like them. I was planning on adding the elastic stirrups. I wear low top shoes and worry about my suit riding up my leg. Thanks

i'll try to help. the "hoof" refers to the extension at the end of each leg of the suit that continues over the top of the foot and covers the shoe. it is designed to try to add some more protection to the foot in case of fire or oil. if you have ever noticed drivers that have a sort of flap that covers the top of their driving shoes at the end of leg of their suit, that is the hoof.
to indy and beyond!!

Hooves are attached to the very bottom of the pant leg on the fire suit, they usually cover most of the top, sides and back of the driver's shoes. They are extra protection against fluid leakage as well as added protection in the case of a fire.
Jack will not have a suit without them. In addition, I believe a lot of drivers like the look it gives to the suit as well.
In the attached picture, it is sort of hard to see them, because they are all black, but they are there, and on this custom fire suit designed by Hinchman, there is embroidery on the hooves remembering Jesse Hocket. On Jack's other suits, he has his team logo put there.
Also seems like we have had to purchase fewer pairs of driving shoes, since we got suits with hooves.

I have them on my suit. They are very nice, plus they keep the top of your shoes clean. I do get made fun of by some of my fellow competitors for having "booties" on my suit, but I like them.

Awesome guys thanks. I think you've sold me. I'm gonna go with the elastic straps and "the hoof"
