VICTORVILLE • More than a dozen people are competing to promote the racetrack at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds as organizers look at adding more local events and better deals for the public.
“There’s a lot of interest in the High Desert to come up here and race,” said Ken Alstott, general manager of the fairgrounds on Seventh Street in Victorville.
Mike Gibson has promoted events at the Victorville Auto Raceway for the past several years. But when Gibson’s contract expired at the end of 2010, Alstott said the racetrack ended up with letters of interest from 14 other individuals and companies who wanted to take it over.
Staff put out a request for proposals to promote the track on Friday, with hopes to have a recommended bid before the fair’s board of directors for approval next month.
