Sammy Swindell will be making a rare outdoor appearance in a midget in the annual 50 lapper at Western Springs (NZ) on Wednesday night. He has been down here for the International Sprintcar Series over the Christmas/New Years period but will pilot a brand new Esslinger/Spike prepared by Lendich Motorsport for the 50 lapper. By his own recollection Sammy can only claim 12 or so outdoor midget meetings in his career so has been shaking down the midget off the back of heats at the last couple of meetings at The Springs to get the car set up to his liking. He has been looking pretty strong but will have to be at the top of his game as he will be up against regular midget campaigners Jerry Coons Jr, Brian Clauson, Brad Loyet and Davey Ray from the US. As well as Nathan Smee and Michael Pickens the current #1 Australia and #1 New Zealand respectively.
With close to 40 midgets in the pits during our International Midget Series the racing has been torrid with a number of the top locals having to transfer out of 19 car B Mains to make the feature. The run shouldn't do him any harm as Kevin came down with him last year and drove the International Midget Series before heading back to the States to take last years Chilli Bowl title.

His memory might not be serving him well then. I'm sure more than a few of you remember that beautiful black Midget of his he ran for more than a dozen event's. Maybe someone else out there remember's that wild ride he took in that thing at Manzy. He was on the short track, but went end over end almost to the back stretch off of turn two of the big 1/2. Nose to tail, over and over again. I thought it would never stop!
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

I don't know how anyone could forget that - I know I never will.
