With the destruction of the 1/2 mile at the fairgrounds, I really thought that by now we would hear an announcement of someone building a new track nearby.

That would be sweet, but haven't heard a thing about it. There was a grassroots effort underway to halt the demolition of SFS, but it lacked any teeth ($$$). I was told that a power company headquartered in OKC volunteered to bring the electric up to code (one main excuse for closing) for no charge, but were politely turned down. The speedway was doomed. Like you, I would love to hear of someone opening a track in central Ok.

There was lots of talk on my website (www.oklahomatidbits.com) about this being built and that going to be built but nothing has materialized. I understand those that were with Save Fair Speedway got with the city of Piedmont (Northwest of OKC) and supposidly the city manager (or mayor) got it passed by the city council but that was about five months or so ago.
There was also talk about one being built straight west of OKC off of I-40 with backing but that fell through.
Watching old video tapes from back in the day at OKC, we really had it good here.

No doubt about it, SFS was a great track and venue. I am amazed at the race fans from all over who remark about the loss of a top notch location. Maybe we will be fortunate enough to get something rolling.
