Rick Ziehl is King of the Roger McCluskey Classic
Kevin Montgomery Tucson, Arizona (January 2nd, 2011) – After capturing both days of the classic in 2010 and finishing second to Johnny Herrera on Saturday's opener, Rick Ziehl, once again made it to winners circle by winning the 7th Annual Roger McCluskey Classic at Tucson's USA Raceway.
Ziehl earned a pole position and wired the field leading all 25-Laps while Saturday winner Johnny Herrera worked from his ninth starting spot to take runner up honors. Herrera was hard charging until hitting the back stretch fence on the final laps but was still able to hold on to second with Charles Davis returning from a nasty flip on Saturday to grab the third place finish.
Stevie Sussex, aboard the 'Smokin' Joe Morales ride, was able to nurse a flat right rear tire for the final lap to finish fourth with Joshua Hodges filling the top five.
Pat Carney went back to back in the X-Mod division winning the preliminary feature on Saturday that earned him a front row starting spot for Sunday's finale. Carney was able to hold off Christy Georges and Austin Adams for the $1000 winners prize and the RMC crown.
Ricky Thornton Jr. drove the Anthony Madrid Modlite entry to victory lane and captured his first Roger McCluskey victory and the $1000 that came with it. Thornton, who won the Total Seal Piston Rings Dirt Late Model Series Championship, was able to out duel Landon Cling and Tony Martin for the win. Cling was later disqualified for not reporting to post race tech inspection giving Martin the second spot with Nick Parker finishing third.
