Johnson Wins Non-stop Feature Race Author : Darren ODea
SEVEN minutes and 51 seconds…
That’s all it took for American Jason Johnson to win round seven of World Series Sprintcars at Borderline Speedway in Mt Gambier on Tuesday night.
Johnson started from pole and finished in the same spot when he won the non-stop 35-lap high-speed freight train from Ian Madsen and Brooke Tatnell.
It was the best result for the NQ47 pilot since he started with the series in round three in Hobart where he claimed a third.
Since then Johnson has claimed a 12th in Latrobe, sixth in Murray Bridge and eighth in Adelaide.
In qualifying last night Johnson had recorded an 11.269 second lap with was only good for 20th in qualifying.
In his heats he converted two third-row starts to two wins which improved his points chase.
His night got even better when he charged through to pole position in the Gold Dash.
Madsen who finished 14th in round six the night before, was ninth in qualifying with an 11.107 second lap.
He then claimed a seventh and a second in his heats before setting up his front-row start through the Dashes.
Luke Dillon set the pace at the start of the night with a 10.970-second blast to edge out Robbie Farr’s 10.985 and Max Dumesny’s 10.994.
Other heat winners were Carl Ludemann, Troy David, Trevor Green, Jamie Veal, Matt Egel and Cameron Gessner.
Jamie Veal won the B Main from Grant Anderson and Jamie Bricknell.
Teams now have a night off before crossing the border to contest round eight in Avalon on Thursday night.
