Ventura, California (Dec 20,
2010) – Kruseman Chili Bowl Lineup
Joining car owner and 2-Time Chili
Bowl Champion Cory Kruseman will be “The General” of the Metal Mulisha Brian Deegan,
midget veteran Rick Hendrix and Illinois’ speedster Kyle Chady in a four-car
effort at the 25th Annual Chili Bowl Nationals held during the second week of
January in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kruseman said of his team, “I am really excited to
get to Tulsa, I feel the four of us can work well together and feed off each
other. Brian and Kyle are enthusiastic and hungry, they aren’t satisfied with
just riding around in circles, they want to compete! Then you have Rick and I who
have done this for a few years, hopefully we can show these guys how to stay
calm and relaxed, meanwhile we can feed off their enthusiasm and it should be a
lot of fun.”
Kruseman will be back in the
Lucas Oil / Sander Engineering #21k Spike powered by Esslinger for the
second straight year. He took home the feature win in Friday night’s
preliminary round last year, his 6th, and led Saturday night’s
feature before cutting down a left rear and holding on to finish 8th.
Brian Deegan, a founding
member of the Metal Mulisha, will make his open-wheel debut in Kruseman’s Lucas
Oil / Metal Mulisha #38k Spike. Deegan is a professional Freestyle Motocross
rider and most recently a Champion in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. He
has been a pioneering innovator in Freestyle Motocross, and is the most
decorated rider in X Games history. He is the only rider to compete in at least
1 event in every X Games.
Deegan attended Kruseman’s Driving
School last week, where he got behind the wheel of a sprint car and midget for
the first time in his career. Cory was impressed with Deegan’s focus and
willingness to learn the art of open wheel racing. “He impressed me” Cory
exclaimed, “he jumped in the midget, stood on the gas and turned some really
consistent laps, I showed him where he could improve and he did just that, he
takes advice really well and is a definite talent behind the wheel”.
Rick Hendrix, a veteran of
the Chili Bowl and a 3-Time USAC Champion (2002 USAC Western Sprint Car
Champion, 1998 USAC Western Midgets Champion, 1992 USAC TQ Midgets Champion)
will be behind the wheel of the Lucas Oil / Sander Engineering #12k Spike.
“Rick and I have raced each other for a few years,” said Kruseman with a smile,
“I’m looking forward to having his experience on our team.” Hendrix of
Palmdale, CA, races with the VRA 360 Sprint Car Division where he took home a
victory this year and finished 4th in points.
Kyle Chady of Benton,
Illinois who runs both winged and non-winged 360 sprint cars will pilot the
Lucas Oil / Sander Engineering #17k Spike. Chady, whose previous dirt
experience includes racing in the ARCA stock car series in his home state at
both Springfield and DuQuion also attended Cory’s School last week and was equally
impressive in his first time in a dirt midget. “Kyle was very smooth and
consistent with his line, it’s obvious he’s a good driver, he should do well in
Tulsa” said Kruseman. Chady raced a pavement focus midget for two years before
graduating to a sprint car in 2010.
