Lies or Harkness? I was under the impression Harkness didn't make his move to Steinart until 1973. Ben Watson told me Lies bought the car , but he never said exactly when . Crazy part is, I don't know that I have ever seen it black.

I have footage , and would like to have a rundown on the show at Amarillo - Sept 1972.

Thank you.

Brian,

The car was painted a dark maroon and still carried the #97 after Jim Harkness was killed in a traffic accident, Frank Lies bought the #97 after that and ran the car in the same paint scheme the rest of the 1972 season.

Harkness drove #11 through the 75 season and was killed before the start of the 76 season. He was the 73 Hutch Nationals winner in 73 in the #11.

In 74 Frank was in the crash at the fairgrounds in the former Prather #97 now #56.

My records show that Frank Lies drove Prather's #97 at the Hutchinson Nationals in 1972 starting second and finishing fifth. You can see the car in the first two photos on this web page and although the pictures are black and white, the car probably was black.

That's the car. Mike told me last night the car was actually a dark maroon color at this time.

Looking at my NCRA yearbook from1972 it shows that Jim Harkness drove the #97 at Wichita NCRA and finished 6th in July 9, 1972, he finished 3rd at OKC NCRA July 16, 1972. Frank Lies drove #97 and finished 5th at the Hutch NCRA July 29, 1972, Frank drove #97 at the Wichita NCRA August 20, 1972 and did not finish the feature. Frank drove #97 at the Amarillo NCRA September 4, 1972 and finished 2nd.At the Lawton NCRA Frank drove #97 September 10, 1972 and did not finish the feature. Jim Harkness looking at the results from Lawton drove #1 Aaron Madden's super and did not finish the feature either. I do have a photo I took at OKC NCRA with Jim Harkness posing by the #97 and I took some photos of the car at Lawton NCRA when Frank Lies drove it and the car is painted a dark maroon with gold lettering and numbers. I did make a mistake about Jim Harkness's accident which happened on February 28, 1976, my mistake. Jim Harkness in my opinion was a great person and a great driver. He could have won lots more races. I liked to watch him run. Frank Lies took over that car and ran it until the end of 1975 with different paint schemes, yes it was involved in the Hutch fire. I do have photos I took of the car every year he showed up at a NCRA event I was at.

Mike, I seen that and remember that car well. Joe Porter Mobile Homes was his sponsor back then. Looks like that was at the Amarillo Speedbowl??

I do have quite a few photos I took of Dale Parson when he ran most are from 1972. I'm old school and don't have a clue on how to post photos.

I know the feeling. I made my early website with HTML now I can't even edit a dvd down to 15 minutes for youtube.

What you do need is a scanner to scan the photos first and then save them to your Photo files on your computer. Then you can go to the image icon on the top row of this editor and click on it and upload photos to the site from your computer and bingo there on the forum. I'll admit it is not the clearest forum for adding photos. It is the same steps on every photo every time. You can even enhance, crop and enlarge etc. your old photos at programs like Microsoft Picture It.

Heck I still remember the 1st email from Ray (BKCR) and dozens of others here on the forum. He said all he knew how to do was turn it on and off and get to the RFTP page. Now he is scanning and posting every now and then. Some viewers swore they would never have a computer in their house until they got a glimpse of the RFTP site at a friends or family houses. It would take more fingers and toes than I have to count the e-mails back when that I got like that.

I would like to thank you very much for creating this web site. You don't know how much fun and pleasure I get when I go to your site. For old guys like myself your web site has re-generated me and my love for when racing was racing. We down here in Lawton and Wichita Falls are trying to keep the past alive with our reunions. Even though we lost our co-founder and leader the weekend of our last reunion in October (Don Phelan) we are going to carry on our reunions in Don's Honor and memory.

I am uploading the silent version right now. If it isn't shut off for being too big on size that is. Hopefully by the time you wake up, it'll be on.

Warren this site has made me a lot more computer savy than I thought that I ever would be and I have made a lot of friends and we owe it to you. I still miss the e-mails that I used to get from Luther. I considered him a good friend even thought that we had never met in person and he was 25years older than I. We used to talk about everything not just race cars, I remember 3 e-mails very well, when my son graduated from college, when my brother-in- law was murdered and the last one that he sent.

Luther RIP

Ray
