Hello Dennis i was checking out a few boards and came up on one that got a lot of reply from racers around the area. They had a good point with that Outlaw is a high speed motor eating track, and now with Salina back into the mix its a high speed motor eater track as well then there is your track a high speed on the gas 24/7 1/2 mil track as well. As all of use racers know high speed on the gas the hole race is hard on everything not just motors AKA pocket book but Thunder bird has something that the other two tracks in this message does not it has the perfect setting for a track just like they put inside of the OKC 1/2mil look at the tracks around the area there small like creek or large like Outlaw,Salina,Thunderbird. As everyone seen in OKC when they went away with the 1/2mil for weekly shows the car count went up way up. I love thunderbird not just for the track but for the area and all the great times of the last 50years or so. If there was a way for you to build a track inside like the one in OKC the racers and i think there would be no way thunderbird wouldn't come out the better of the area tracks than the ones around it. Just something for you to think about Mr. Slader i mean everyone loves to race but cant afford to run big tracks so they stay at home y not be diff, and have a track that is smaller between creek and Outlaw/Salina thats not so hard on the pocket book and bring these people out of there lazy boy.

I completely disagree. The initial rise in car count at the OKC Fairgrounds was due to a couple of different things. A) Bruce Holtz was gone, B) The spec heads made racing closer and cheaper and C) The economy was great during most of the 3/8 days. If you look at the last few years the track was there the car count once again started to dwindle because of A) The economy B) The lack of rule enforcement and C) Lanny yelling at people. In my eyes, and in the eyes of others I have talked to, getting rid of the half mile was the beginning of the end for the OKC Fairgrounds. So in other words, don't do it. It will take away the history and uniqueness of the place. The only fairgrounds track left in this state does not need to be tampered with.

My dad made the mistake of saying that Thunderbird was just "too fast" to me. Now I must race the track that is "too fast". By the way Thunderbird has said that they indend to cut a shorter track inside the big track for mini-sprints and mini-stocks and go-carts.

Dennis, I disagree wholeheartedly with the first poster, and agree with Cheese, that getting rid of the half-mile was the beginning of the end for State Fair Speedway. The reason for the increase in the numbers of cars at State Fair Speedway were manifold when they went to the 3/8ths, almost all of them didn't involve the fact that the track was smaller. I never got to run on the famed half mile of the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, and if I had one wish that final year, it would have been to open the 1/2 mile up for one final race. Alas it never happened.
Dennis, I live in Lawton, completely on the other corner of the state, but when you put a date on the OCRS schedule in 2010, we instantly circled that date with an ink pen. I had a blast racing on the big half mile this past year, and hope that the half mile stays around for years to come.

Dennis Slader
"Thanks for your input. I have to agree with 77j. The track is the history and what makes Thunderbird what it is. Our car count actually grew all year and we had a great first season. I believe we only had four or five cars tore up all season and no more motors blew than i have seen at a 1/4 mile track. We hope that with the improvements that we are going to make over the winter attracts even more people next season. And I do beleive that when OCRS was here this year we had their largest car count of the season. I understand your concerns and we do plan on cutting the 1/4 mile in to run a few specials on. We hope to see everyone in 2011, we will have a tentative schedule out pretty soon."

Idk about Okc but I made a trip up to the half mile to run the Okie from Muskogee and had a blast even though I blew my motor but it wasn't the tracks falt and I plan on making more trips to the track next season.
