Note the break in top tube of the cage... this is either a KPC(Steve Kent) or a Maxim, not sure which one... but my point in posting this picture is that ANY chassis can come apart...it's likely that the country of origin of the tubing had nothing to do with the cage failure... TK posted on his Facebook page that he's been released from the hospital and that he's OK.......Photo by Steve Lafond, Tear Off Heaven...

we have been having trouble with the steel in some of our equipment, 4x3 inch steel tube. with some just have clean breaks others develop a small crack the break. this has just happened in the last 3 to 4 years.

Just wondering if your failures are near a weld, and if you are using material thats certified?
Take it to the Top & let it Rock

All I'll say after witnessing that crash last night is that I'm amazed (and impressed) that TK's car held up as well as it did. It was as violent and brutal as anything I've ever seen and I was very surprised and happy when he climbed out. The cage did it's job.

No that cage didn't do it's job,it should have bent, not broke. One more flip and TK could have been a shiskabob. He is very lucky to get out of that car healthy.

Yes, the cage DID do its job. Doesn't matter if it breaks or bends, its job is to absorb energy, rather than the driver absorbing the energy. The point is there wasn't one more flip and TK is ok. Unless you can see into the future, you have no idea what would have happened. The car and not the driver is hurt - job well done. Throw the chassis away and get another. Any time a sprintcar crashes, all drivers are lucky to get out unhurt. The danger is inherent.

It looked more like the top of the roll cage where it broke actually shattered.....When I was at Hanford earlier this year and Steve Kent son crashed , the frame did the looked almost exactly like Tim's Saturday night...I'm just saying

a charateristic of moly tubing is to shatter ,high carbon count aids this, its ductility is present when forming bends or the radius of roll cages ect, upon impact , a quick ,sharp healthy blow will cause it to sheer, almost cause a shattered type look, if the welds were in tact, the chassis did its job , the driver luckily walked away from a "bad one" , sometimes chassis intergrity is put to a "worse case senerio" type crash,
the chassis is junk, however, the driver is not ,thank god the incident was over before another point of impact was absorbed , Im only assuming without being there personally it did its job as designed. any video of the wreck? I am curious , what did the upper portion of the cage strike?

Didn't Shane Hmiel's cage break similar to that?

wow guess it could have been a whole lot worse if he was in a chinatown chassis made with tubing from recycled pop cans.
I don't aim to please.
I aim to hit the target.

Cubic, 21, got the material data sheets from this one by chance. Hopefully you didn't misplace them like you did with the XXX papers you got your info from. Maybe this was one of the free cars, TK is surely considered a "good" one, isn't he Cubic? HAHAHA
