I would design it very similar to Eagle Raceway in Nebraska. Ive heard some of the best short track racing you will ever see happens at Eagle week in and week out....if you dont believe me, watch this video....<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QYQtSBBonaw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QYQtSBBonaw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Based on what I saw at Tri-City Speedway this year, the reconfiguration was a home run. It was the best racing I've seen in years. Go to the USAC website and watch the Gold Crown Midget Nationals night #3 highlights and you will agree...

Go to http://www.usacracing.com/midget_index/ and click on the "Video" tab under "Multimedia" on the right side (about half way down). Enjoy!

I would love to see another square track like Flemington (N.J.) Speedway. After visiting over 150 tracks, I have never seen any place comparable to Flemington. Seems like the perfect track for an Outlaw race. The track would automatically come with a built in "It's the track that beat them" excuse any time the Outlaws got beat.

It would be a multi-track layout. High banked bullring inside of a medium or low banked half inside of a flat mile. That way I could host midgets, sprints, late models, Silver Crown, ARCA and AMA flattrack.
Pits would be all outside with a couple of access tunnels and steeply raked grandstands so that everyone is a little closer to the action.

I've raved about Haubstadt many times before but Kokomo's reconfiguration looks really nice. I'm hoping to finally make it up there for a race next year (prolly USAC midget week). Here's the vid from the Kokomo Klash sprint season finale (someone will have to show me how to embed a vid cause I'm not doing something right). It may look flat but two cars can run side by side lap after lap there.

Great topic!
I like a lot of different track shapes and have seen good races at virtually all of them.
I know it's tough on cars... but I'll have to stick with bullrings. 1/4 mile is a must.
Biggest issue I would see at most bullrings... they aren't wide enough.
Wide 1/4 mile with progressive banking. Sounds a lot like what I read about Kokomo on the banking part.
SOMETHING that promotes multiple grooves... whatever magic that is. Too many tracks are 1 groove, which may not be the track's fault 100% (wide tires, too hooked up, etc.)

I'd make just like the old Baylands Raceway in Fremont, CA. 3/8th's with high banking & wide sweeping turns. I'd just build it somewhere else like Socal so I wouldn't have to drive so far & wouldn't freeze my a$$ off

Agreed Meatbag! Bristol was bad ass when the dirt was on it. One of my favorites is Attica, OH. Usually racey and about the right size.

I'd morph Lincoln Speedway with Husets for a higher banks and wider racing surface...with the PITS OUTSIDE THE TRACK...and put Fred Putney in charge of the preparation.
oh...and no 358s allowed
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

I'd Klone Kokomo's racy track and surface with Larryburg's grandstands/amenities.

No need to do that. Just go back in time and keep the old track at lawrenceburg. That was a bad case of fixing something that wasn't broke.
