That might be the most honest, informative, and insightful thing that I've read on this board.

That was an interesting read. Like DK, I'm a 410 purist, but I also see the hand writing on the wall that the 360's are going to become the marquee class. No promoter, track or any individual is to blame. The technology of the 410 engine and its associated costs are to blame.

To lower the purse (if such does happen), will drive the final nail in the coffin for the 410 class. I trust DK knows this and thus has been holding off on such a move as long as he can.

Rob.....

Interesting comment. Care to share your side with us? Always interesting to hear what the fans have to say.

Def an interesting read.

Why does the purse need to be dropped? Why cant USAC lower the fee its charging to Don in order to help Don and racers?

I think it would be interesting to see how many 410's are out there and why they arent running. The cars are out there just not being run.

I think Kevin Miller should be your next interview,I think he should be in town this week.I'm sure you could get plenty of questions to ask from the fans, promoters, car owners, and drivers.

Like many, I would like to see the 410's survive. USAC's ability to place more races is going to be an important part of the puzzle. I have been daydreaming about a scenerio where Jim runs a healthy VRA, Chris runs a healthy West Coast Sprints, Don runs USAC/CRA 410's about once a month or every five weeks. Rules and schedules are synchronized. Victorville, Tulare and Hanford would particpate. When Don runs the 410's, other tracks take the night off, send their teams south for the night. The 410's are the "A" show, the 360's are the "B" show and with fifty sprint cars in the pits, the Perris (and traveling) fans are the winners. Key to this scenario is a series sponsor, who provides enough purse to the 360's to enable them to travel. It wouldn't take much, but it would take something.

A summit meeting is being planned for the Southern and Central California track owners. I will be reporting on that in the coming weeks and I will be reporting on what happens at that meeting.

I remember the old radio promos Ascot used to run "WHERE THE 605 AND 405 COLIDE!!!!!!". Seems to me some exciting spots like this with action noise, some pounding rock and a loud announcer on stations like KLOS and other stations that appeal to kids would attract attention. My first trip to ASCOT was fueled by these spots. Most people I talk to in my area never heard of sprint cars, or Perris and Ventura. As Mose Allison said "When you get up to the city, gotta learn to shout, cause if you don't boy your gonna get left out"! Those monster truck promos sure fill the stands.

I'm sure that one of the Agajanians will be up in the booth at Perris this weekend. He will be asked to reprise that famous qoutation.

For argument purposes, I believe the actual line (at least after I moved out here from Michigan in the mid 1970s) was, "Where the Harbor, the San Diego and the 91 Freeways collide." And, at times for different shows JC Jr, substitute with "crash," "slide" etc.

Harry, I got an E-mail from JC Jr. yesterday and he will be unable to attend this year. So, we will not be able to ask the question of where Ascot was for his famous response.

You may be even more precise there Scott. I recall that all 3 freeways were mentioned in the ads.

THIS IS A GREAT CONCEPT!! WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT THIS AND HELP? THE BIG WORD YOU MENTIONED IS "SYNCHRONIZED". OUT WEST HERE, USAC HAS A PROBLEM SYNCHRONIZING THE YEARLY TOILET RENTAL!! ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND PLANNING. AS WE ALL AGREE THE PURSE WILL ATTRACT TEAMS. THE HIGH COSTS, FROM THE SANCTIONING BODIES(usac), TO TRACKS/PROMOTERS WILL REDUCE EVENTS? COUNT THE TEAMS AND CARS FROM TUCSAN TO TULARE. PLENTY OF CARS WE JUST NEED A PLAN. THANKS FOR YOU IDEAS!!!! PS- last nite it cost me $750.00 for crew pit passes for the ovals?$
