Tony Stewart Racing Enters Western World with Donny Schatz and Levi Jones
Kevin Montgomery, TUCSON, Ariz. (October 25th, 2010) – Tony Stewart Racing kicked off the 2010 season as Levi Jones captured both the Sprint Car and Silver Crown victories at USA Raceway's Copper on Dirt in February. As the season winds down TSR drivers will return to Tucson for a double shot at the KRONIK Energy Drink Western World Championships with Donny Schatz and Levi Jones ready to stake claim on more than $100,000 in prize money and add their names to an esteemed list of Western World Champions.
While Donny Schatz has already made the list in 1999, it is Levi Jones that has not added a Western World Title to a very impressive racing career. Jones, who just secured his first USAC Silver Crown Title, will head west with intentions of wrapping up his fourth National Sprint Car championship and then end the season where it began with hopes of a first Western World Title.
Schatz, a 4-Time World of Outlaw Champion, will join his TSR teammate in Tucson as he sets his sites on the $15,000 to win ASCS National Western World Title.
Schatz earned his first World of Outlaw title in 2007 and has racked up three more since as he is only the second driver in history to win 4 consecutive Outlaw Championships and is currently second in points going into the season finale as he battles with Jason Meyers, Steve Kinser and Joey Saldana for a shot at a fifth title.
Both TSR drivers will head to Tucson's USA Raceway with hopes of double Western World Titles
Brady Bacon joined Sammy Swindell as they topped more than 130 drivers in 2009 as they became Champions of the Western World's 42nd edition. Bacon, one of 12 to compete in both Wing and Wingless competition, picked up $5000 by winning the Non Wing portion and joined Sammy Swindell as he collected the $15,000 check and etched his name onto the winners list for a third time by winning the ASCS National Western World Championship.
As we approach the fall and most of the country succumbs to the cold and snow, racing action will again heat up with the much anticipated 43rd running of the Western World Championships. Close to one hundred and fifty top Sprint Car teams from around the country are expected to migrate to warmer climates for their final chance at a big payday and another opportunity to add their name to prestigious list of winners.
Both the winged and wingless forces will tackle USA Raceway's 3/8-mile clay oval for three nights on November 18th, 19th and 20th, with more than $100,000 in "A" Feature money alone distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. A $15,000 share awaits the winner of the KRONIK Energy Western World Champion, while the ASCS Canyon Region conqueror will pocket $5,000.

Tennessee's Sammy Swindell became the 26th different winner of the Western World by topping the 2009 edition of the event last November marking his third triumph while Oklahoma's Brady Bacon etched his name in the record books by winning the wingless portion of the event.
Steve Kinser has claimed the most Western World titles with seven triumphs including wingless wins in 1982 and 1983 followed by winged wins in 1985, 1987, 1990, 1992 and 1996.
Ron Shuman is next on the list with five Western World triumphs, all of the wingless variety, with other drivers posting multiple Western World wins including Lealand McSpadden (3), Sammy Swindell (3), Bud Kaeding (2), Mark Kinser (2) and Jan Opperman (2).

OK, you guy's seem to have the skinny on most everything LOL Since the Western is now a ASCS event, and the only reason there are non wing cars in it at all is because AZ for the most part is traditional car territory. That, and with the help of Kevin Montgomery we have the only non wing group with ASCS, but like the rest of the series we run the 360 too. My question is since TSR only runs 410's, except of course their Silver Crown car, where are they going to get their 360 engines for the Western?
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

I don't see anywhere in the release that says the TSR drivers will be utilizing TSR equipment.

No, but it say's "Tony Stewart Racing Enters Western World", not just Levi Jones and Donny Schatz enter the WW..Why would he use someone else's equipment, but put his name out there? That plan old doesn't make any sense that he would just "borrow" some cars for the Western, but put his team name out there.

Where are they going to get a 360? I'm sure Tony Stewart can find some loose change lying around to buy four or so 360s.

Ya think... but you can bet it won't be a Roush Yates 360!.. Again, if they don't put some together in-house, which their capable of, who would they go to? You know those boy's will be going to win, always.

Where are they going to get a 360 you ask.....Oh, I don't know? Perhaps they'll use one of the ones that are sitting in their shop that Tony used to make the NRA 360 guys look dumb @ Eldora during the King's Royal. Schatz dominated the 360 shows a few years back that Dave/Kasey/Tony put on for the Olie's challenge or whatever it was called.

I agree with Oakland Sprint Fan, put Donny Schatz in the non-wing and Levi Jones in the winged car. People would pay for that. Schatz did run 5 to 10 Silver Crown races years ago, not sure who he was driving for but the car was not competitive, maybe a family operation, don't know. I remember 15+ years ago seeing Haud, Sammy, Blaney and someone else in silver crown cars on a Saturday afternoon on ESPN. We also had Thursday night thunder. Good days. Those old days have been talked about before on here, but I have fond memories of looking forward to those nights and afternoons.

A in house engine is my bet, and to be sure not something that's been laying around either. As you all know they ain't like they used to be, and there putting up some big numbers, for the big $
tatnellmania... When I was a kid I saw Bettenhausen, Larson, Foyt, Sacks, Branson etc on the one mile at the old Phoenix fairgrounds, but nowaday's the Copper on Dirt is one of the few events that really stir me. The Western was like that some years at Manzy (the non wing years), but now, it's just a very good show, with a whole lot of sprint cars. Being a old school guy, how could it be different? The Copper has all three classes, and the best of the best...That's hard to beat!
Leon if you can find a way to the Western, I'll meet you there Thurday the 19th, and buy you tickets for all three nights, and find you a little grub too. I'm dead serious, I will!.. I'm thinking if I tell Tony you're there, he'll strap one on just for you.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Yes I'd like to see the Copper on Dirt, also the Dream at Eldora, and never saw sprints on asphalt so always wanted to get down to the Phoenix Copper Classic, but won't ever happen probably. I have heard that sprints/midgets on asphalt are not as exciting as on dirt, but would have guessed that.

My dad alway's said, "watching sprints on asphalt, is like watching fish in a barrel",. I agree, but us both being Hoosier's, Winchester and Salem were, and still are, the exception. Might throw IRP, or whatever they call it nowadays in there too.
The Midgets on the one mile at PIR are amazing to watch, and more often than not they put on the best show. The list of the winners of that race is like reading the who's who list of some of the top drivers, ever... I love telling the NASCAR guy's that the Midgets often time in faster than the cup cars.

I know what you mean Leon. I find myself turning blue, from holding my breath so long... We call them "killer bee's" because of the sound, and way they seem to swarm around the track. There have been so many close finishes I can't remember them all; but I sure remember when that mostly unknown kid named Stevie Reeves beat the "big boy's".

the more appropriate question is WHO will TECH the TSR 360 style engines?
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

I believe you will see Donny in the 39c car that Jason Solwold raced on the ASCS Northwest tour this season for Richard and Lana Saumere and he will be racing with Paul Mcmahan as a team mate, just something I heard so feel free to tell me that I'm wrong but if not plan on seeing them in Vegas also.

That's why it reads,"Tony Stewart Racing Enters Western World with Donny Schatz and Levi Jones", instead of just Doony Schatz, and Levi Jones enter the Western World.
I don't know Kevin, it looked staight up to me. I don't know how you could have made it any plainer.
