At the end of the interview, Dustin Long asked Steve if he thought Shane would race again. "Oh sure," Steve answered. "It's what he does."...http://bleacherreport.com/articles/499885-racing-to-recovery-steve-hmiel-opens-up-about-shane-hmiels-injuries

Good to see he is off the ventilator and breathing on his own, even though the story says they keep him sedated most of the time. And more surgeries to come. Those cars we love to watch are dangerous. Hmiel and Rilat are famous people to us, but think about all those unknowns from local tracks around the country that go thru this, or worse (death) that we never hear about.

Those are not the same deal
I have sympathy for Rilat but that was a dumb stunt not racing

Sorry bout that. I was thinking about all the wild WoO tumbles taken this year including McCarl, Haudenschild, Schatz, and Saldana; wrecks that looked very bad but whose injuries were fairly minor in comparison, then saw the Travis Rilat thread and threw his name in there with Hmiel. It seems safety takes a back seat to speed in 1200 pound sprint cars with nearly 900 HP as compared to a stock car.
Young people do unwise things and this time it cost one man, Tyson Perez his life and another, Travis Rilat has been on a long road to recovery. Even after recovery, he will never forget about Perez. PTSD. Hmiel's recovery hasn't really started yet what with more surgeries on the way.

For me reading that he was still going forward, and get better was great news. That along with his dad's quote when asked if he thought Shane would race again "Oh sure," Steve answered. "It's what he does." gave me the most optimism for his recovery since his accident. There was also some very good news from the doctors about his recovery that we've never heard before.
