IRWINDALE, California — - For the first time in the now twelve years Toyota Speedway at Irwindale has co-hosted the legendary Turkey Night Grand Prix , general admission tickets for the very special event will go on sale for only $10 dollars each for 10 days beginning today and ending on Sunday, October 31st. This price represents a 50% discount over the listed $20 price.

This year we really wanted to give all of our great fans an incentive and the opportunity to be a part of the 70th running of this incredible set of open-wheel races, said track VP/General Manager Bob DeFazio. Ford Focus Midgets, Sprint Cars, and the featured 98 lap Midget Grand Prix will all run under the banner of the United States Auto Club. This race meeting has been a Los Angeles tradition since 1934, DeFazio concluded, and the list of winners reads like a Who s Who of motoracing. **

Page Jones, the son of 1963 Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones, has been named the event s Grand Marshall. Jones, who was seriously injured in a racing accident 1994, is the subject of a new documentary ( Godspeed, the Story of Page Jones ) which chronicles his remarkable fight back to a normal life from head injuries so severe doctors told his parents that it was very likely he would not survive.

Reserved seats, normally $35, will also be on sale at

$25 each) for the race that s of one of the oldest and best-respected open wheel races in the history of American racing.

Discounted tickets for the Thursday night, November 25th race may be obtained in person at the Speedway s ticket office, by phone (626) 358-1100, and on the track s website at: www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com today through Sunday October 31.

(please note that no other discounts apply for this special fan offer)

** to name only a few of the 47 different winning drivers who have had their names inscribed on the towering Agajanian Trophy: A.J. Foyt, Tony Stewart, Ron Shuman, Jason Leffler, Mel Kenyon, Gary and Tony Bettenhausen, Bill Vukovich, Johnnie Parsons, Billy Boat, and Parnelli Jones himself (twice 64 and 66).

The only thing that can be guranteed is that there would be much happier people to have this race back on dirt! ! I haven't been to a Turkey Night GP since it was at the PAS.

For the people who do not like pavement racing, I suggest u go to the Oval Nationals for Sprints, Tulare for midget/sprints, Ventura for midgets, and Perris for Sprint/Midget double header 2 days after Turkey Night.

Some fans (maybe just a few) do enjoy seeing strong fields in both Midgets and Sprints ONCE A YEAR on pavement. There is ALOT of dirt racing for sprints and midgets ALL YEAR. I like chocalate the best, but if I never had any other flavor, it might get boring (maybe not wink ). Every year people gripe about Irwindale, and alot of them have never gone like IMissAscot. It's not dirt, but sometimes the racing is really good. My memory is not always real good, but I remember some boring Turkey Nite Grand Prixs at Ascot that Shuman dominated. ANd some great ones too. On a 1/2 mile dirt track, HP is a premium. On pavement HP is not as important as most cars these days can light up the rear wheels anytime they want too (according to a car owner I spoke with last week). So a good driver and chassis setup is the critical factor at Irwindale.

If you don't like Pavement Open Wheel racing, than stay home with your relatives. For me I'd rather be at the track.

Jeff Gordon might not have won Turky Nite, but he did OK in his brief USAC career.

"He won the USAC Midget championship in 1990. That year, Jeff ran 21 USAC Midget Car races. He was the fastest qualifier 10 times, won nine races and at age 19 became the youngest Midget class champion ever. The next year he moved up to USAC's Silver Crown Division (the cars are similar to Midgets and Sprints but are a lot bigger), and at 20 he became youngest driver to ever win that championship." 42% win ratio that year, kinda weak.

This will be my 31st. annual Turkey Night, I am not a asphalt fan but seeing sprint cars on the Irwindale 1/2 is an AWESOME sight. Sprints didn't run on Turkey Night at ASCOT so seeing them once a year at Irwindale is a treat. The big slicks and the added side panels the asphalt cars run make the Sprints look BAD ASS!!! If you haven's seen the sprints at Irwindale you are missing a good show. They even get sideways on occasion!! Besides it's only 17 miles from home.

Besides that, you can always say that you are too tired to deal with black Friday shopping.

if the midgets have enuf or too much power, imagine the 360 sprinters. 30 or 40 laps go by quick. The Tamale Wagon comes out for this too normally with Tracy Hines driving.

Black Friday, ugh unfortnately I need to get 3 monitors and new video card to run my 3 screen racing sim.
