With a few choices this weekend, what is your choice.
Still haven't made my mind up, but leaning toward 2 days at Tulare, if not Ventura.

My choice is the greatest dirt track in the country - the PAS! To bad can't make it to Ventura for Big Mike's All Coast finale though.

Its a must for me to take my father to PAS this Saturday because His favorite driver, Tony Simon, will be there.
Tony Simon- winner of 1972 Turkey night.
Want to thank Tony S to make my father hop all the time.

Trophy Cup at Tulare Friday and Saturday. Love the smell of methanol, but at Tulare you get the unique combination of methanol and cow puckey. 80 cars signed up. Friday: qualifying, 10 heats, 3 D's, C, 20 lap B and. 30 lap A. Saturday: No Quals, 6 heats, 3 D's, C, 25 lap B and 50 lap A. Some heats and semis are partially inverted. The 50 lap A on Sat. will be fully inverted Stars: Kyle Larson Golden State Champion this year who looks like another Demon, TK, Tim Kaeding who has won everything lately except last weeks GSC go at Hanford where he finished second to Kyle, Brady Bacon USAC Indiana hot shoe and of course Brent Kaeding.
Hope this does'nt offend the sensabilities of Old Trpcrwn, the self appointed guardian of the purity of sprint car racing. I will attend the Ovals where I challenge him to a duel of Non sequiturs at 30 paces.LOL Will be burning up the GrapeVine come Friday morning.

Ah excuse me, but Brady Bacon is from Broken Arrow, OK. (not Indiana) and has not competed (maybe a couple of races) with USAC in two years.

For being such a big wing bandwagon fan you'd think that you knew that Brady Bacon doesn't run with USAC anymore and run's all the ASCS National and TnT Tour race's. Go back and try again "wing boy". ROFL By any chance are you al.boner's grandad ?

I'm with Dave on this one...I shouldn't admit it here on the Traditional Sprint Car site, but I have to get my fix of technology, speed, talent and car counts this weekend in Tulare, CA. For those who know me, I am a SPRINT CAR FAN...not a wing fan, not a non-wing fan, not a pavement fan, etc. I just enjoy a good race...and Tulare never dissapoints with the Trophy Cup! I live about 11 minutes from Perris fairgrounds, but this race cannot be missed this year. True hardcores understand. Something about the Central Valley is magnetic too...maybe because I spent my childhood racing Quarter Midgets (not Point-25 Midgets!) up there. And you cannot question the magnitude of the talent and the passion of the fans. I hear it all the time on here and in the stands at PAS..."Boy, I wish such-and-such would shed the wing and come race with us more often"...that should say something...many of the best non-wing drivers started with wings. Names like Ronnie Shuman, Leland McSpadden, Chuck Gurney, Bud Kaeding, Jesse Hockett, Brad Sweet, Kyle Larsen, Brent Kaeding, Damion Gardner, Brady Bacon, Daron Clayton, Robert Ballou, (and I"m even gonna include Rickie Gaunt) all cut teeth running straight and as hard as they could in the corners with foils holding them down. Haters...bring it...

Doug
Not trying to nitpick your post but I think Ron Shuman started running with his brother Billy at Manzanita in a non winged sprinter, if my memory is right he was in a non caged car to begin. Again at my age this might be wrong, the memory gets weaker daily.

PS I don't hate wings just like sprint cars better than airplanes lol

Many of the drivers you mentioned may have started with a wing because that is the only type of racing that was available at the time. As an example after NARC was outed in Northern California traditional sprint car racing disappeared.

There is a cool little track in Lemoore called Lemoore Raceway. We stopped there last week on yhe way to Hanford. They were racing 600 cc micros and other stuff. Very friendly and family oriented place. They were running their races early so they could get to Hanford. Doug Bushey got it right when he said there is something about the central valley. Great talent and very passionate fans. If anybody comes up, the turn one bleachers is Oakhurst country, so come on over and we'll form the TrpCrwn section. I personally will cheer for TK and/or Andy Forsberg.

Well let’s see on Sunday how many cars the PAS had I’m guessing maybe 22 and you all know I love the PAS but Ventura will have twice that many and its going to be awesome seeing Dave Darland and Jon Stanbrough and I’m sure some other Indiana guys competing with Greg Taylor, Troy Rutherford, and Cory Kruesman at Mr. Naylor’s world famous Commotion by the Ocean

Looks like Perris will have the most fans. (In reality, maybe Tulare will, had a really tough time finding a hotel for Friday). But Perris is the popular choice on this board.
Just hope the weather dries up. Anyone know if any of the tracks will have problems from the rain this week. Ventura is sometimes succeptible to rain but I am sure Jim will do whatever it is necesarry to get the race in). Secretly, I wouldn't mine if the race was postponed until next week as Ventura might get some extra entries from the Trophy Cup crowd and from the CRA guys. But I can never wish for a rainout/wet out.
This thread wasn't about wing nonwing debate, just wondering where people are going this week. I can almost guarantee you that each track will have great racing with something unique this week. Ventura has 5 heat races and Stanbrough, Kruseman and Darland. Perris has the Legends of Ascot reunion, Big Buck Trophy Dash (wished I could see that), Damion and Shuman. And the trophy cup has 80 entries, 50 lap inverted main, zillion heat races, 2 nights of racing, free food, and $20K to win. All three races will be great, Have fun this weekend and hopefully I can see the races on the net that I didn't get to go to.

I'm with Doug Bushey on his post. I am a sprint car fan, plain and simple. For sprint car fans it doesn't get any better than the Trophy Cup. I love the cause it supports and the payout is fantastic for the racers. The thunderbowl raceway is awesome for winged sprints. The intensity of the action is second to none. Balls to the wall, peddle to the metal racing. I am riding past Paso Robles as I write this on my way with my brother and two friends from Santa Maria. Our group will end up being about 8 people total all going for the same great time. I literally wait the whole year for this race. 80 freaking sprint cars! Who doesn't like that?
