A couple of things:
I finally watched this episode last night and Tony Decaire got more pulblicity because Robin did not know he was than if he did. Also, Robin was very interested in hearing more about him. Was interested in what he ran, and wished him luck in the future.
Also, everyone needs to remember it is who you would pay see. I would never pay specifically to watch Sammy. I absolutely hate him. However, when Sammy in running there is usually a half a dozen guys there that I will pay to see.

Ok time out. This is the thing that makes me mad. JonR says he would never pay to see Sammy race, ok fine. But then he says " I absolutely hate him". Really? My guess is you have never really tried to talk or get to know him. He is very much business, but he is a wonderful person. Did he not sign your kids t-shirt or smile for a picture with you? I think it is ridiculous that you say you hate somebody that you sit in the stands and watch and then walk by for 30 secs and then tell the world he is a jerk. If this is how it works, then JonR you are a jerk.

As a person away from the track, Sammy may be fine. As a driver at the track, I hate Sammy. He does not get his reputation by accident. There is a long list of actions, attitudes, and stories that has made him the person that he is.
While on the local level, I have talked to tons of drivers. On the national level, I have talked to very few. It is not my nature to start up a conversation with a total stranger that I am never going to talk to again. I am just to shy to do that. However, if I was going to start, it would not be with Sammy.

1. If Troy won at Salem, he must have something going for him!
2. Sammy signed my son's t-shirt at the Comfort Inn parking lot in Piqua, I really appreciated that!

Amazing how you can have that much "hate" for someone you know nothing about personally!
I have an "ex" and "ex mother-in-law" and I don't hate them.
I'd buy them a Whopper....if they were really hungry!

Jeff24,
You said basically Sammy has pissed off every owner he has ever driven for. Not true, he drove for us at Gold Cup and he never once "pissed us off". He is professional, respectful and we had a great time with him and Amy. He joked, laughed and drove his ass off for us finishing 4th, beating many WoO drivers that were there.
Let's put it this way, Sammy has no time for foolishness at the track and stupid questions he has answered a million times. He is there to do a job. When he comes through the backgate he has "punched in on the time clock". Just as you do for your job. You can't screw around yapping with co-workers at work and neither can he. People have the wrong opinion of him. He is not the only driver who is like this either. They hear the same crap 15 times a night, "I am your biggest fan", I saw you in 19__ at __________, "what happened"?, etc, etc, etc. Sammy just has no time for this stuff when he is there to do a job. If you have a INTELLIGENT question AFTER the race he will answer.
We found him to be an extremely focused, intelligent driver and person. We enjoyed having him drive our car and if ever in the position again to have him in our car we would do it in a heart beat.
If you do not know him personally, keep your big mouth's SHUT, you are truly looking like jackasses talking about a person you don't even know personally.
This man is the definition of a Professional, and he doesn't care if you like him or not, he cares about doing his JOB and that's the way it should be.

I really think that some people need to go back and look up the definition of a "fan" It is different than a definition of a friend. As a fan, I do not need to personally know Sammy to have an opinion on him. As a fan, I can judge the things that I see on the track, in interviews, and on TV to form my opinion. This is what fans do. It is different than what frineds do.
Dale Earnhardt JR had thousands of fans that love him and hate him, but do any of them know him personally? Kyle Busch is probably the most hasted driver in NASCAR, but do any of the fans know him personally? My wife loves the Dallas Cowboys, but she has never met any of the current players. She hates the Washington Redskins, but once again she have never met any of the players. Fans are the reasons that sports are great. Fans are the reason that drivers can race for large purses. It is not the responsibility of a Fan to know the person that they are cheering for personally. It is the responsiblity of the Fan to cheer or boo the persons that they like or dislike.
How many fans did Tiger Woods have that never knew his personal life? How many of those same fans now hate Tiger for his personal life? Yet, none of those fans will ever meet or talk to Tiger.
I am a race car fan. When I am at the track, I hate Sammy, and I do not feel bad about it.

Fan; –noun
1. any device for producing a current of air by the movement of a broad surface or a number of such surfaces. 2. an implement of feathers, leaves, paper, cloth, etc., often in the shape of a long triangle or of a semicircle, for waving lightly in the hand to create a cooling current of air about a person: We SAT on the veranda, cooling ourselves with palm-leaf fans. 3. anything resembling such an implement, as the tail of a bird. Hate; -verb (used with object)
1. to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest: to hate the enemy; to hate bigotry. 2. to be unwilling; dislike: I hate to do it. –verb (used without object) 3. to feel intense dislike, or extreme aversion or hostility. –noun 4. intense dislike; extreme aversion or hostility. 5. the object of extreme aversion or hostility. Wow, I go to my local track as much as I can, and the "Big Boys" show up a few times a year here. I can honestly say that I DON'T hate any of them, I my have my favorite and not so favorite but, I RESPECT them all. The more you , JonR, speak of how much you hate and try to justify it makes you sound ignorant and jealous. Sean, Tucson

Why would anyone call themself a fan and then say they "hate" the driver or drivers, seems to be a hypocrite, JonR I'm sure Sammy would just as soon not have you anywhere around him imo.

If you are going to go to the dictionary get the right word.
Fan is short for fanatic
–noun
1. a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics. The amount of PC on this board today is at an all time high. I guess none of you were at Knoxville to see the people wearing the anti-Schatz shirts. I guess none of you heard half of the stands boo Donny as he walked across the podium. I remember reading about the same thing happening when Kinser was winning all of his championships. I guess none of you did any of that. When I go watch races and sports, I am a fan. I want my team to win and the other team to lose. There are drivers, I like. There are drivers, I am impartial too, and there are a couple that I hate. It is no different than a college football fan. Do we really think the fans of Texas don't hate Texas A&M. Geogia fans hate Auburn. Michigan fans hate Michigan State. I really don't think people are upset that I said that I hate a driver. It is the fact that I hate thier driver.

JR you are one sick person and yes we care if you hate someone.
That would be nice to have on your post if the guy got killed the next day
You are probably just rattling cages but hate is a strong word and you do have to know someone realy well to hate them

WowSandy64.I thought Amy did all Sammy's PR .Can't belive he has created another droan! Dealt with Slammy many time's since 1979 in florida. No doubt he can drive a sprinter however any way you slice it he's the biggest little pr#ck you'll ever have the misfortune to meet. Now before anyone gets really bent lets not forget i'm entiteled to my opinion that is based on 25yrs plus of dealing with what me and many others consider should have been one of the greatest of all times!!!Yes he should of won Kville Nats. but geuss what Sh#t happens. So rip on me all you want folks but if he was as good as you all think would MR Kinser have all those wins? Things that make you go Hmmmm!
