The guy I normally like filling in for Despain was a little off Sunday a week ago when he did his Speed thing. He listed the top ten guys he would pay to see race. There were 5 sprint car racers in their, Kinser was #9 or 8 or 7, Joey Saldana was closer to top, John Force was in there, Bryan Clauson was #3 or something, another open wheel sprint guy whom I forget, a World Rally champion was in there as was Montoya and another odd Nascar pick, and of course being polically correct he threw James Stewart in there (who hasn't raced in a couple years), and # 1 (hold onto your shorts), #1 was Sammy Swindell, whom many watching wondered, "ya joking"? After each driver he'd explain why he picked the guy and he left the worst statement for Sammy. "Sammy Swindell exemplifies everything about auto racing that is good and pure". Say What? Sure he works on his own cars some. He speaks his mind. There ain't an owner he hasn't pissed off. Fine, but the guy is and always will be a butthole. Old grump. Lets not remake history here.Sammy exemplifies Everything about auto racing that's good and pure----no but nearly the opposite?
PS a caller called in to talk about Troy DeCaire. Robin, one of the most well informed dirt track/sprint car media hacks arouond had no clue who Troy DeCaire was. Economaki ought to get him a free copy of NSSN so he can keep abreast of things. Jees, the guy doesn't just pretend bout not getting paid enough, he is broke.
Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Seem's pretty simple to figure out what he's saying, if a person understands the English language. Once a dick...Always a dick. It fit's Sammy to a T. Funny though you mention Foyt as he fit's that bill too, GREAT shoe....but still a dick.
Take it to the Top & let it Rock

polically correct he threw James Stewart in there (who hasn't raced in a couple years),
This statement proves you have no idea what goes outside of your little racing world. Bubba has been racing this year but was sidelined with a wrist injury.
PS a caller called in to talk about Troy DeCaire. Robin, one of the most well informed dirt track/sprint car media hacks arouond had no clue who Troy DeCaire was.
Who cares maybe Troy needs a better PR person.
I don't aim to please.
I aim to hit the target.

So, because you think Sammy isn't nice enough for you, you feel that your buddy Robin Miller shouldn't want to go see Swindell race? Does the criteria for being a sprint car driver include being nice all of the time. Swindell is one of the most intense, calculating, focused drivers to ever put on a helmet, and sometimes that focus can come off as "cold". I am sorry that Miller didn't pick some of the drivers that you only like because they were nice to you. Bottom line Swindell always has been one of the most exciting drivers on dirt and Miller had every reason to say that he would go out of his way to go watch him race.

I'm a Kinser fan,
But you have to respect the fact that when Sammy is there, he is serious about what he is doing.

'Ya gotta love the people on here.
I think Robin Miller and I have 2 things in common:
#1- We seem to share the same basic ideas/principles/opinions of what it means to be a "Racer".
#2- Neither of us should EVER have a TV camera pointed at us.
That being said, the AJ comparison was intentional.
From the mid 70's until about the past 4-5 yrs., I WAS NOT a Sammy fan. I've come to appreciate his talent, determination and experience. The man is simply NOT interested in 2nd place. Like him or not, I think most will have to admit weather it's on or off the track, more times than not, Sammy is THE SHOW!
He's always done things HIS WAY and I admire that..
His performance at Knoxville this year was nothing short of amazing. One that will be talked about for many years. A true moment for the history books. When he "took a bow", that was just too cool.
FYI....I had to google Troy DeCaire.

Sammy is still great even though he is now sensible. He is not as crazy as he once was but still awsome. God didn't give a great personality. Big deal. We aren't considering marrying him. We want to see something great on the race track.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Do you not understand that it was who ROBIN MILLER would pay to see race? it was not titled
who should the fans pay to see race. Robin has seen a more wide range of racing than anyone on this
board ever has. Auto racing does not revolve around sprints cars.
I'll be the fourth to mention that I have never heard of Troy Decaire.

Yep, had to goggle him too. Maybe I should have recognised his name because he ran a Silver Crown race, but didn't!

I know of him because I've watched the Must See asphalt sprint series shows. They're very well done with some good clean racing.

My daughter wrote a column on Hoseheads about Troy earlier this year. We went to the Must See race at Slinger and met Mr. DeCaire. This young man, who at the time was embarked in a tight points battle, still took the time to talk with Dana, take some pictures and was truly thankful for the article she wrote about in her column Cravin' Racin'. Troy is a class act that wants to race. Not only is he a top notch sprint car driver but a gentleman also. Oh yea he did score a victory at the Salem, anyone winning a race there is a racer in my book and a champion.

jeff24 I couldn't help but read your post and disagree with several of your views but you are entitled to your opinion as I am.
Sammy has rarely if ever "pissed off" an owner he has driven for. In fact several owners respect him for one, he returns their equipment as good if not better than he recieved it and two they admire his driving and mechanical abilities. Maybe it is you who should buy a copy of NSSN and read it because a lot of carowners know how Sammy operates and it's always business first. People tend to get irritated over his demeanor at the racetrack but that is his office so to speak. He is at work and gives it 110% and afterwards he will gladly talk to you, autograph whatever you have and is fan friendly. I know because I have been to his trailer many times over the years. I also have to add that Amy is also a fan favorite she is always willing to talk to anyone and everyone. The Swindells are first rate people in my book.
Oh and the "other" sprintcar driver Robin mentioned that you can't seem to remember was Daron Clayton.

Please - if we are ever in the same room or general vicinity of each other - pass the pipe (or bottle as it may) with whatever it is you inhaled (consumed) before typing that. I can use a break from reality every now and then.

No one said he wasn't a great guy, and a good racer, but out of that 90 million households, it seems not very many people from this forum, or the SCRAFAN forum watched it. The best racer I've seen come out of Florida in this era has been Dave Steel, and this young man has a long way's to go to measure up. I think the USAC ride in the Silver Crown car is big, and hopefully more will come.
Bet ya a dime Robin knows who Dave Steele is, and yes, I paid to see Steele run; and more than once at the Copper Classic, and more than once, he stunk up the show.LOL
