After many years of putting on great weekly shows and their loyal support in Central Pa , isn't it time for the promoters of the Grove , Lincoln , Selinsgrove , Port Royal , Bedford , Big Diamond , and other tracks get together and put on a huge show for fans & drivers ? We really don't need the WoO to get crowds , just promote , and fans , drivers will come from all parts of the USA to race , won't they ? I think so , what do you think ?

Thread title mentions a big race for local drivers in PA, then you talk about a race that will pull in drivers from all across the country. That's a little bit contradictory.
Port Royal had the Dream Extreme race a couple of years ago that paid $30,000 to win. That's probably the biggest you'll see for an unsanctioned show in PA. To me, part of the appeal of these big paying races (i.e. National Open) is to see if the Posse can keep the money away from the Outlaws. I don't think you'd get nearly the draw from a fan or car standpoint if you made it into an unsanctioned event. JMO

The biggest problem is the promoters they will not cooperate with each other because they are afraid someone else will get one of their precious dollars. They could do a true pa championship that moves from track to track every year. I am sure they could get a big sponsor like goodyear to pay most of the purse. One big race when no other tracks run 410's and everybody has a chance at the big money. Maybe if the drivers would get together and start demanding better money and shows the promoters will step up? It would be awesome to see how many guys from around the country would come in. Maybe they could make it happe during a speedweek so there would be more reason for guys to come.

One of their precious dollars ? Isn't that why they put on a show to make money?
If you are so sure that it will all work out do it, just put up the money and do it.
But you probley just have the idea and not the money

As you know I don't remember too well but it seems some guy from TN just won a $50K race in Posse country and I am sure it was open to any team who wished to enter.

The only sprint car series than can draw enough fan support for big money, $50K race is WoO (except for Knoxville). Usac, ASCS and locals can't pull in enough fans to support the large purse.
Like the previous post mentioned, they already have a few big money races in PA with a every big name local in the field; National Open - $50k to win, Summer Nationals - $25k to win.

All good points made guys , but if the show was done right , it would be supported by fans , and drivers . This could work to let our local guys make some cash , and this race could alternate between the tracks , a different track every other year , if they would work together ?

I think the 2 times the Grove has had the Open w/o the WoO (98 and 08) has scared them right or wrong.

If I were going to have a $50000 to win race that was going to attract drivers from all over the country, I would most certainly be trying to bring the best from all over the country. Why would you even want to bring people from all over the country, but exclude the WOO drivers? I am lost there. If you want a show for the Penn. guys, then I think you would be better off limiting it with an invite format. But I still don't see why you would do that and not invite the WOO's top drivers.

I am not saying this is right or wrong, and I definitely don't want to start up the standard Hoseheads argument about who is better. But I think the OP started the thread saying it would be nice to have a huge money race with all of the money solely in local hands. The Outlaws make three swings through PA a year, but the locals racers are here from March to October.
If it wasn't for local racers in PA or Knoxville or Ohio or wherever, there wouldn't be weekly racing at those venues. That's fine for people that only want to go to a couple races a year. But for fans that enjoy going to races every week of the season, the three times a year the Outlaws come to town are not going to cut it.
In all honesty, as far as "inviting" WoO drivers to take part, if there is an Outlaw show booked on the same day, no WoO teams would come anyway. Port Royal's Dream Extreme race was an outstanding purse for two seasons -- $30,000 to win and $1,000 to start -- and attracted vitually no non central PA teams. And keep in mind that $30,000 at Port Royal would be easy pickings for any outsider. LOL

Wasn't there a couple of $50k to win races at Selinsgrove back in 89 and 90? I know Sammy won the one in 90 and I think Wolfgang won the previous won.
I say have another one at Lincoln, a track where any big outlaw drivers that could make it haven't raced at in years and you know it should provide more action than all the big half miles.

Not going to disagree with you, all i am saying is, if they want to give the locals a locals only show, make it an invite only and invite only the local drivers. Make it a PA shootout. If you were going to invite other drivers from across the country and no WOO drivers, what purpose would that serve? Thats all I'm saying.

I agree invite only locals only , but I think as I said before it's time to give our locals a race for big money , instead of letting outlaws come in for the chance to win it all . These Pa Posse drivers or local drivers work hard for there money all year , support the tracks , and the fans support them . With work , lap money , sponsorship , and all the tracks working together like they do on Pa Speedweek and Keystone Cup this could be turn into a annual race for the drivers and fans alike with no outsiders just all Pa Drivers welcome .
By the way the Grove National use to have drivers come from all over the USA , before we had the Outlaws , this was when racing was more creative , run what you bring , technical skill was displayed with innovation . The fun has gone ,now all the cars are the same and there is not as much passing .
