Cody Morris, KENNEDALE, TEXAS (October 9th 2010) - A full quartet of Lucas Oil ASCS2 rough riders rode atop a wave of anticipation into the 3rd Annual Cowtown Sprint Nationals. That wave crested Saturday, October 9, in the form of 126 Lucas Oil ASCS2 pilots gracing the tradition rich, high banked quarter mile, as well as the newly built 1/8th mile Action Track.

Collinsville, Oklahoma native Tyler Thomas stole the spotlight with his 4th Lucas Oil ASCS2 Midget victory of the inaugural season for the new EcoTec Midgets, as well as impressively out-dueling local sprint car ace Kevin Ramey for the $1,500 payday in the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing finale. Karley Kay Dobson continued her late season surge with a $750 score in the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted Finale, while Longview, Texas native Tyson Hall nixed an Oklahoma sweep with a dominant $1,500 score in the lightning fast Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw finale.

With 126 Lucas Oil ASCS2 open wheel machines in the Cowtown pits and 190 total, the Friday night slate of heats and qualifiers would ultimately fall 5 qualifiers short of completion, setting up an action packed Saturday finale.

Piloting John James' number 4j entry, Snohomish, Washington's Gary Taylor would set the pace for the 20 lap Lucas Oil ASCS2 Midget main event. Taylor would brush aside early challenges from Tyler Thomas and maintain the point until a mechanical failure would force Taylor pit side with 5 laps remaining.

Collinsville, Oklahoma's Tyler Thomas would inherit the lead and click off the final 5 laps in short order, earning his 4th Lucas Oil ASCS2 Midget victory of the inaugural ASCS2 Midget campaign aboard the Factor One, Alpine Stars, Bell Helmets, Thriller Photo, Walter Web Designed, and BT Powdercoat sponsored no. 91 entry.

Thomas would be chased to the stripe by Chet Gehrke, with Tulsa, Oklahoma native Matt Ward settling for show position honors. Kevin Ramey and Eric Fenton would complete the top 5 running order of the 11 car field. Gehrke would take Friday night heat race honors with Taylor topping an action packed Saturday qualifier that saw Sapulpa, Oklahoma pilot Brandon Hahn go for a wild end-over-end ride into the turn 3 fence. Hahn would walk away, but be done for the night.

A thrillingly tight 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw Championship Chase between Oklahoma natives Blake Hahn and Christopher Bell would provide an excellent backdrop, but it would be Longview, Texas native Tyson Hall setting the pace for the 30 lap Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw main event. Despite 4 separate yellow flag incidents, Hall would absolutely dominate, leading wire to wire to take his 1st career Lucas Oil ASCS2 victory and a $1,500 payday aboard the Pine Tree Motors, Sawyer Chassis, Metric Cycles, Mac Flowback, and Gohl Injections sponsored no. 5x entry.

Benton, Arkansas native Nick Ivy would start and finish in the runner up position while a monumental battle would take shape slightly behind. Sapulpa, Oklahoma's Blake Hahn entered the Cowtown Sprint Nationals with a razor thin 4 point lead over Norman, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell in the 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Championship Chase. With Bell starting 4th and Hahn starting 8th, the balance seemed it could shift. However, Hahn had different plans.

Seemingly shot from a cannon, Hahn was on Bell's 3rd place bumper only 5 laps into the 30 lap affair, before blazing by on lap 8. Hahn would pressure Ivy for the runner up spot at the halfway point, before ultimately settling for show position honors, followed by Bell and Donnie Ray Crawford to complete the top 5 running order.

Tyson Hall and Frank Flud topped Friday night heat race action, while Hall and Kade Morton topped Saturday qualifier action over the 25 car field. Hahn's 3rd place finish proved most pivotal, as Hahn will lead Bell by a scant 9 points into the final Lucas Oil ASCS2 Outlaw event of the 2010 campaign at Cowtown Speedway's November Sprint Shootout.

While Christopher Bell trails in the Outlaw division, the young Norman, Oklahoma upstart led an astounding 63 entries into Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing competition. But it would Alvin, Texas native Jacob Lucas leading the field to green in the 30 lap Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing main event. Lucas would withstand pressure from Fort Worth, Texas sprint car veteran Kevin Ramey before an audacious turn 3 slider by 7th starter Tyler Thomas would topple both Lucas and Ramey in the 10th lap.

Ramey would dispose of Lucas and furiously challenge Thomas in what was likely the best battle for the point of the entire weekend, exchanging repeated sliders during the mid stage of the event before a lap 23 caution. Thomas would use the restart to his advantage and reel off the final 7 laps unchallenged to take his 1st career Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing win, as well as a $1,500 payday, aboard his increasingly familiar Factor One, Alpine Stars, Bell Helmets, Walter Web Design, Thriller Photo, and BT Powdercoat sponsored red and white no. 91.

Kevin Ramey would ultimately settle for runner up honors, while Oklahoma City, Oklahoma's Shelby Byrd took show position honors. Donnie Ray Crawford would take his 3rd Lucas Oil ASCS2 top 5 of the evening with Alvin, Texas native Caleb Martin completing the top 5 running order.

With an astounding field of 63 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing pilots, two 24 car B Features would be necessary to set the $1,500 Non Wing finale.

And both would see incredible performances with Norman, Oklahoma's 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing point leader Christopher Bell advancing from his 16th starting position to pick up the win in the 1st B Main. Benton, Arkansas native Nick Ivy topped the 2nd B Main from the pole position, while Burleson, Texas native and Cowtown Speedway regular Jeb Sessums blazed from his 23rd starting position to steal the 4th and final transfer position.

Entering the 2 day Cowtown Sprint Nationals with an 85 point lead over Pauls Valley, Oklahoma's Steven Shebester, Bell's transfer likely proved the clincher to a 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing Championship. With only Cowtown Speedway's November Sprint Shootout remaining, Bell now leads Shebester by 126 markers. With only a B Feature start at the November Sprint Shootout, Christopher Bell will be the 2010 Lucas Oil ASCS2 Non Wing Champion.

Hulbert, Oklahoma's Karley Kay Dobson has officially completed her resurgence. Trailing West Plains, Missouri's Logan Martin by over 120 points just 8 weeks and a few events ago, the 16 year old sensation entered the Cowtown Sprint Nationals only 2 points behind Martin. That deficit has officially been erased, and in fine style as well.

Joshua, Texas native Dylan Fox led the field to green for the 20 lap Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted main event aboard the 1/8th mile Action Track, but it would be Coweta, Oklahoma's Chance Morton gunning into the early lead. Morton's lead would be short lived, as 5th starter Karley Kay Dobson grabbed the point on lap 5.

Dobson would survive late race pressure from Morton, taking her 3rd Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted triumph of the 2010 campaign aboard the Momo's Racing Engines, Stallard Chassis & Components, JPM Precision Machine, Crescent Valley Jamboree, and Bill's Body Shop sponsored no. 28 rocket.

The $750 win also marked Dobson's 13th podium finish in a 2010 Lucas Oil Restricted campaign that has seen her finish 7th or better in each of the 18 contested events. But the most important number by far is 13, as Dobson now leads Logan Martin into the Lucas Oil ASCS2 Restricted finale at Cowtown's November Sprint Shootout by 13 markers.

Chance Morton would chase Dobson to the stripe, while Logan Martin would earn show position honors with a last lap pass of Sand Springs, Oklahoma's Dalton Wisely. Wisely and Kennedale, Texas native Brandon Hull would complete the top 5 running order.

Chance Morton, Dalton Wisely, Reagan Reed, and Payton Williams topped heat race action for the 27 car Restricted field, with Jeffrey Fliwoski taking the B Feature win.

Lucas Oil ASCS2 resumes, and concludes, with the 4th Annual Cowtown Speedway November Sprint Shootout. All 4 Lucas Oil ASCS2 divisions will be in action.

Excellent recap Cody.

The ASCS2 cars continue to put on a really good show at Cowtown. The non-winged 600 racing was sheer pandemonium with drivers battling 3, 4 and 5 wide; advancing 15-20 spots in races...my guess is that announcer Tim Looney can skip going to Starbucks for a few days after all of that!

And there's no question that the new ASCS2 midget division has a place in the racing scene. That division is going to grow quickly.

Already looking forward to the November show. Hopefully the weather can cooperate like it did last weekend. Speaking of November, the complete event and registration page will be up in the next day or two.
