Jones Busy Promoting Sprint Car Racing
Lakewood, CA. - One day Tony Jones may become a race promoter. In the past week he has been busy promoting sprint car racing at Perris Auto Speedway with a stop at the Fullerton Car Show in Fullerton, Ca. and tonight at the Schroeder Elementary School's monthly PTA Meeting in Huntington Beach.
It will be his second annual visit to the K-6 elementary school. Both visits have included the famous Mark Alexander "Silver Bullet" #4 sprint car and his message has been clear at each stop. And that is to get people excited about a sport that he grew up in and bring new fans to Perris Auto Speedway. Several new fans stopped at the car show to ask questions of both Tony and the race team last Saturday and to check out the Alexander sprint car. Jones also was able to bring along the Randy Waitman Sprint Car simulators to the car show for new fans to get the feel of sprint car racing. The simulators proved to be popular with many participants. Several free tickets to the Perris Auto Speedway were given away by Jones at the Fullerton Car Show.
Tonight's PTA meeting will also include the USAC Western Midget of Jake Swanson and possibly the VRA Sprint Car and recent "Wagsdash" winner Brody Roa. Tonight's PTA meeting is not open to the public. Schroeder Elementary is among the few public elementary schools in California to receive a distinguished Great School Rating of 9 out of 10.
Jones and the Mark Alexander team are entered in this year's Oval Nationals at Perris and are anxious to challenge some of the country's top non-wing sprint car drivers in the three-day event set for November 4-6. It is considered one of the premiere open wheel races in the country. The team now prepares for this Saturday night's So Cal Fair race at the PAS following a second place finish to Corey Kruseman in Ventura on September 25. On October 23, the PAS will feature the annual "Legends of Ascot" USAC/CRA event.
