Hutchinson's own sprint car star Mickey McCormick. To the far left is Vernon "VG" Cunningham. If there was a sprint car race VG was there.
I'm guessing if VG were still with us today he would be one of Racing From The Past biggest fans.
Editors note 5-12-07: Todd White of Hutchinson informed me the guy in the white shirt was Glenn Tracy from Hutch. I grew up right across the street from Glenn and wife Marge. I was friends with Glenn's kids, John, Glenn Jr; George, Debbie and Kathy.
As a kid I remember Glenn racing a #49 Hudson at Mohawk Speedway in the early 60's.

This is really a nice photo of my Dad. That is Glenn Tracy Sr. In the white shirt. He is no longer with us. I would like to have a copy of this picture and any other pictures you might have of him and o his car. He did race car 49 for years. I have grown up arround the sport of racing to include being the Flagman at Hutchinson Raceway Park. The Old MoHawk Speedway. I also Flagged at the Thunder Valley Speedway in Fayetteville Arkansas. Please send what you can and thanks for the memories of a great racer and man. Not to mention a fantantisc Father and Mentor.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and am looking for any information or pictures on an I.M.C.A. sprinter owned and driven by Mack Terry. He raced during the late fifties and early sixties in MO, KS and OK. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hi, another newbie looking for pics or info on the I.M.C.A. #14 of Benny Rapp, Toledo, OH, own CAE Chevy.
1965 till 1971.
I bought this car a year ago and am slowly "massaging" it to running condition again. New 327 installed and brakes and fuel system next. The car is stored at Ian Gordon Racing, Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA. If you're over here please call by..JPG)

September 18, 1956 Hutchinson, KS. This was an IMCA race at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. #19 was Don Hutchinson from Kansas City, MO. A.J. Foyt from Houston, TX in the Vaughn Offy.
Later that day Don would pass away from injuries received in an accident involving A.J. in turn 4. Don was driving the former Bob Slater (1954 IMCA Champion) car. The car had already claim his life early.

Warren,
Thanks for posting all these photos, it has been a good outlet for race fans all over the nation
to see them. Some other facts about these cars, the car driven by AJ Foyt would later be
owned and raced by Sonny Helm. In 1966, Ed Smith of Lincoln, Ne would campaign this
same car for several more years as the ETS #44 Sprinter. Drivers that included Keith Hightshoe,
Larry Upton, and Curt Waters would drive this car for Ed, in BCRA, IMCA, and supermodified
competition. Big Al Murie "The Missouri Charger" would race this car into the Knoxville Nationals
"A" Main in 1970, the car also was on the cover of NSSN in 1956 with Foyt, and Hot Rod
magazine in 1968 with Hightshoe at the wheel. The Slater car that Hutchinson drove that day
would later race in 1969 with Jan Opperman behind the wheel as a leased car for Bill Smith
with the 4x paint scheme. In the 1970's this same car now over 20 years old would race
as the Fred Bowers 5x out of Nebraska. Drivers that included Wayne Holtz, and Mike Cecak
would drive it during this time. The last time the 5x was driven in competition, it raced
at the Belleville Highbanks in 1976. That BCRA race was won by Larry Clark of Tolleson
AZ. This was the last time non wing sprint cars raced at Belleville. The 5x is currently
in the Belleville "High Banks Hall of Fame", and sits across from the car that replaced the
Vaughn car for Ed Smith, his early 1970's Trostle, that also raced as a purple #44.

September 9, 1956 Topeka, KS. Walt McWhorter in the Chet Wilson stretched midget sprint car "Mighty Mouse".
Another photo contributed by Ray Cunningham from the collection of his dad The Late Vernon Cunningham from Hutchinson, KS. Vernon was probably the biggest sprint car fan from Hutchinson, atleast that I knew of.

Chet's sprint car was Black for the first and only time in 1956. If you look on the side you
will see the "Mighty Mouse" cartoon character. Frankie Lies nicknamed the car after driving
the stretched midget sprinter in 1953. In 1956 Chet would race this car for the first time
with his newly developed Chevy Sprint Car motor. Chet with Walt at the controls won
at Belleville during the fair in IMCA competition. This victory was significant because
it was the first victory in IMCA for a Chevy. By 1963 the Chevy power plant would
be the dominant engine in sprint car racing, a title it still holds today, 55 years after
Chet's win at Belleville. Learn more about the incredible racing accomplishments
by Wilson, and his son Jerry in the upcoming book
"The Offy Killer" Chet Wilson - The Man Behind the Legend
which will be published this fall for release by Christmas by Chet's daughter
Donna Wilson.
