Hat's off to the 83 team, they even had a $2,500 bounty on their head at the Fremont Classic last weekend and they still swept it both nights...lol.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

Alot of people say he should step up to the WoO trail again but why? Hes making a killing this year and basically racing close to home here in the MidWest.

How can he be driver of the year? That would be like picking a triple A player to be Major League Baseball MVP.

It's a little like comparing apples to oranges... but wouldn't Doug Wolfgang have won driver of the year during some of his Weikert years with 50 wins against basically EVERYBODY? He was driving for a Pennsylvania team and should have been driver of the year hands down. Winning Knoxville, PA, WoO, All Stars, etc.
Sounds a lot like Shaffer to me.
It's tough to argue against a WoO driver that can win 15 -20 features against that level of competition night in and out. Saldana is once again pushing that envelope toward the voters.
Kinser is having a nice season. Not as many wins as others. Schatz... no thanks. Good year but not great year. Meyers? We'll see how it ends up.
If I had a vote... I'd vote for Mr. Shaffer. Winning the biggest race of the year put him over the top big time to me. He's won in different series and in different states... he's traveled and won. It's fun to see another top shelf team develop like they have.

...my guess is...from now on, when they announce him as Tim Shaffer, winner of the 50th Knoxville Nationals...he won't give two shits if he's ever refered to as Tim Shaffer, "Driver of the Year"...
...save that crap for the guys out there putting together a "resume"...just give Shaffer a beer and call him Knoxville champ...I'm betting he'd be good with that...

I agree with you 100%, Shaffer couldn't care less about "DOY". That being said "The Steel City Outlaw" STILL gets my vote (even though it doesn't "technically count".

A 5th at Eldora ain't bad at all. I bet they'll be in contention to win tonight at Lernerville, Tim's home track. Don't like the All-Star's (Guy Webb) but guy's like Shaffer and Dale Blaney are good for winged sprint car racing. Contenders to win almost everywhere they show up.
One thing I've noticed with the 83 is when Tim stepped into it a little over two years ago, they were winning races right off the bat but they weren't as good against the outlaws as they are now. Might have stepped up their motor program or hit on some good set ups. Would love to see them bolt in a 360 and come down to I-30 for the STN's in Oct.

...if I remember correctly, when I talked to Janet at Attica a couple weeks ago, she said that they are going to race the Short Track Nationals...I could be wrong, but maybe she will see this thread and let us know for sure...

I believe they along with several other good 410 teams were planning on running it last year until it was rained out and ran the following weekend. Then they all opted to race the World Finals at Lowe's. That was shaping up to the best field ever at I-30, or at least since it became a 360 race.
