USAC WEST COAST 360S ARE "SPRINTING FOR THE CURE" OCTOBER 2ND AT TULARE
By Lance Jennings

TULARE, CA – SEPTEMBER 14, 2010… On Saturday, October 2nd, the Groppetti Automotive Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will host the final point race of the season for the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series. The special event called "Sprinting For The Cure" will also raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. Joining the traditional 360 sprints on the Tulare clay oval will be the IMCA Modifieds with their annual "Fall Shoot Out."

Originally planned as a two-day show, organizers have decided to make the "Sprinting For The Cure" race a one day event with an increased purse of $13,400. With a championship up for grabs in the $2000-to-win and $300-to-start 35-lap feature, a talented roster of drivers are expected to be on hand.

Fresno's Craig Stidham has led the point standings since March 27th at Bakersfield. Kerman's Davey Pombo has been cutting into Stidham's point lead and has a shot at the title. They will have to battle with the likes of T.J. Smith, Justyne Hamblin, "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr., Rusty Carlile, Peter Murphy, Richard & Jace VanderWeerd, and many more for the top prize.

The Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino and Southwest Contractors, in partnership with the Groppetti Automotive Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, will make a major donation to Breast Cancer Research. In recognition of the event, Clovis' Peter Murphy will unveil a special paint scheme in the #21 Tarlton & Son Inc. / Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino entry.

For competitors with the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series, there is a $75 entry fee which includes the car and driver. Pit passes are $40 for USAC members and $45 for non-members.

The IMCA Modifieds will compete for a $12,000 purse with $2000-to-win and $250-to start the main event. The competition entry fee is $150 which includes the car and driver. Pit passes are $40 for IMCA members and $45 for non-members.

The Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway is located on the Tulare County Fairgrounds at the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare. The Front Gates will open at 5:00pm, with Time Trials at 6:00pm, and Racing at 7:00pm. Reserved Grandstand Tickets are $25 and Bleacher Tickets are $20. Advance tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling the track office at (559) 688-0909.

Hell why bother investing in an expensive sprint car when race tracks see fit to pay the snoozer support division the same $2000 to win. Its no wonder sprint car counts are on the decline... I have an idea of what the payout should be: $3500 to win sprints and $500 to win for the mods. That seems alot more appropriate and you would get more sprint cars too. I was planning on going to this show but now its not the originally advertised 2 day trophy cup type format so its not worth the money for the trip.

Cheers!

1. it doesnt keep going back and forth it was announced at drivers meeting on sat that tulare had chose to go to a 1 day show because frankly theres no chance of getting 40+ cars with the pacific nationals and vra running that weekend that is the only change been made to this race. so with that said tulare chose to double the purse.

2.it got changed to a one day show running our usac format that we have ran all year

3. this is the last and final point race for the 2010 season

Henry as was i surprised that our sprint car division was being paid the same as the mods but honestly they have 150 entry and sprints have 75 and the mods will prob bring more then our sprints. im sorry you are choosing not to attend but depending on how this weekend goes will be how close of a championship battle we have going into tulare currently stidham is 15 ahead of pombo.

Thats a great purse for the 360s, especially since the track isn't doubling up on the back gate with a 2 day show. No hotel bills may bring more cars too. And considering Hogge just earned 8k from Soares by sweeping a twofer at Antioch and Merced, 2k to win might be considerd a little light by some of the "money racer" mod guys.

Props to Tulare. I hope we can see more of these purses for the 360 traditionals.

Geez, I had fun.

Hey Rod, not only did Hogge IV win $8,000 from Soares, the next weekend he went to Medford and won $6,000. $14,000 in two weekends, not too bad for a "snoozer" class...LOL I'd enjoy watching some people try getting around a track fast in a mod....

Yeah well a unicycle aint easy to ride either but that doesnt mean they are exciting to watch race. Ok bad example 24 unicycles riding around a dirt track would actually excite me more than caution fest mods.

Tracks need to encourage racers to step up to premier divisions rather than pay them to stay in the support classes. Where is the incentive to take the risk both to your health and wallet when you can tool around in a mod and race for the same dough?

Cheers!
