I have been going to Gold Cup for more then 15 years and this year was without a doubt the worst one in my experience. The new format is basically the "normal" WOO rules and result in the most predictable, boring, show you could ever imagine. and if that wasn't bad enough you get the same deal for three days. It used to be that the best racing was on Thursday and Friday and Saturday was pretty predictable now its just boring; except for the wrecks which is very sad. My desire is to see drivers with a chance to pass and the format encouraging, excitement from the racing. It is a shame when the most important one or two laps are the ones the individual cars make by themselves!!!!!!!!!
The inversions are a joke, the races are like hot laps, the criteria for the number of heat races is ridiculous, we had about the same number of cars on Thursday and Friday and yet had 5 heats race on Thursday and 4 heats races on Friday. That meant that there were 12 cars in heat races (Friday) with no chance of anyone in the back half of field making the top 5. It is just a waste of time and money (for local racers, except for the top teams in the state) and the whole WOO format insures that every night 95+ % of WOO regulars end up in main (and if not they can always take a provisional)
The Gold Cup has become just another WOO exhibition (except its dragged out for three days; save your money next year and enjoy some great local races without WOO, or just go on Saturday and watch them take almost 5 hours to run 5 races and the promoter is too cheap to pay another few hundred dollars to have a second ambulance on track because he has to pay the WOO $100+k to sanction show. I remember when they had a medical helicopter on site and the tickets weren't $40 and $50 a night.
Eliminate, qualification, draw for heats, run 8 cars per heat and give passing points Chille Bowl format or Trophy Cup or the old East Bay Nationals, or something else and split 50k of sanction fee with the top 10 in points that week and rest into purse for that nights racing.
ok What do you think.

Some good points... I too am not a fan of the Nascarification of the WoO.
The format is purely for the top drivers and owners.. (i.e. $!) not for the fans...
and yea bring back the alphabet soup...

I'll preface this by saying I wasn't there, but 18th to 2nd and 16th to 4th in the A Main didn't excite you? I went last year (1st time) and frankly there were 35 cars on the 1st night and 40 cars on the 2nd night, but there were a ton of slow cars. I'd of rather seen all the top cars run both nights.

The fact of the matter is that we got to see the best sprint car teams in the world for 3 straight days. Track conditions will always be what they are and how in the heck does Steve Kinser do it? Does anyone know?

The reason the A main has so many WoO drivers is they are that good. There are only a few NorCal drivers that can run with the WoO. If you changed to a ASCS format with passing points you would STILL see the same drivers up front (Donny, Joey, Meyers, Kinser, Sides ......). Why do you think a local NorCal driver has not won a WoO race in several years? PA & Ohio region has much better locals.
The WoO format provides an equal opportunity for all drivers ....... how can it be bias towards WoO??? The bottom line is qualify well, finish in the top 2 for dash (or top 5 for the A main). Look at TK. He had terrible quals each nigth and didn't transfer in the heats or B or C mains. .... so he missed the race. It's that simple!!!!!!!!!!! If you qualiy pooly, you better be passing some cars in the heats!!!!
Handy Promotions is the one that chased away all the cars. Look at GSC and the Chico weekly program ... very low car counts. Look at the Gold Cup for the past few years: 2010: 50 cars, 2009: 75 cars, 2008 & 2007: 100 cars.

Paul McMahan tailing Meyers for most of the race was boring...Larson and Schatz was boring...Kinser from the back was boring....Jac from the back was boring...Bud Kaeding from the back was boring...Allard from the front to the back after a boring incident with Schatz, and then back to 9th was boring...
You do have some valid points as far as the format, I am a huge fan of passing points but that's not happening anytime soon in the WoO.
I will take your advise and save my money...I'm going to start now so that I'll have enough of it for next years Gold Cup.

You want a format that doesnt support the top drivers and top dollar teams? How about making them
run with 6 cylinders? Are you kidding? There is not one sport in the world where the rules dont favor
best funded teams and athletes. I think you need to rethink your wording. You want a show where the
slower cars get an advantage? Huh? Nascarification? Please clarify. Is Jimmie Johnson given extra
special fuel and a magic pit box to assure a victory in the championship every year? No, he goes out
and kicks everyones ass. Did Schatz (and i dont like him) have the WOO championship and 4 straight
Knoxville nationals handed to him? No, he beat everyones butt, almost every night. The underdog
winning is great, just like this years Nationals, but savor it, because the best team, almost always
comes out on top. No fixing required.

The low car counts were due to the fact that the WoO run Goodyears, while Silver Dollar and the GSC run Hoosiers. Guys didn't want to buy Goodyears for one weekend, not worth it.

Hey, Sean!
I was lucky enough to attend that race on Saturday and I can guarantee that no one in the stands was complaining about the line up or the race being boring throughout the show. I have to admit this non-wing show was better than any wing show that I have seen this year.

I respect that. But, you aren't one who usually complains about the racing you attend. I was just teasing the people who complain about WoO. At least between you and I, both types are being supported!

Nascarification= start the fastest guys in the front... blocking becomes more important the passing.... an overemphasis on qualifying time.... sprint car fans want to see racing, passing, slidejobs... not guys winning the main by finishing in the top 2 in the dash...
It is not called NAPCAR for nothing....
