I'm with you.
I went to the first Hafertepe WoO show at Lone Star and I'm not sure how many people more they could have shoved in there. Great crowd. Haven't been back but I haven't read anything negative about the crowds since.
Keeping it special and once a year creates demand, maybe they think it would dilute that demand. Maybe it's a $$$ thing. I don't know. Competing with high school, college & pro football in Texas in the fall isn't the easiest thing to do.
The classic 80's WoO swing was THE BOMB. Big H, Devil's Bowl, sometimes Lone Star, Lawton, OKC, Tulsa... nice tracks without a 8 hr drive between stops you had to make overnight. North Texas Motor Speedway outside Dallas was great, too. Cool paperclip 1/3 mile.
TMS is the most underutilized dirt track out there... I keep thinking a USAC doubleheader during Nascar weekends would pack the house. I think a few Cup drivers could be persuaded to sling some clay. YES, the WoO should race there. I think that track is a big reason I lost faith in the WoO... they didn't attempt to speak to Eddie Gossage for a year when the new regime took over if you believe Eddie. To me, if that is true, it's absolutely insane.
The headquarters of the WoO was in the Dallas area, the first race of the first full season was in the Dallas area... it simply should race around here. There are a TON of motorsports and entertainment options around here to compete with but I still think it would work.
I want to make a proposal to run the ASCS in a 2 day TMS show, possibly Nascar weekend. (my wish)
This open weekend in October? Yes, let's get some TX racing going-
