And yes, to the readers wondering, I am alive and did (somehow) survive 9 nights in Knoxville. It feels good to be back.
410s (23 Cars)
Welcome Mat Huge car count gets aided as DZ (Dusty Zomer), JZ (Jessica Zemken), A-Mac (Austin McCarl), Joey Moughan, and Dave Glennon join the regulars and semi-regulars of Clint Garner, Scott Winters, and Jake Peters.
MIA N/A
VIP Kind of scattered through the crowd but Savage was up top while LDA_24 also moved with yours truly to the top of turn four. The Champ also scurried over for a bit while Bosma24 sat at home.
Time Trials (1 lap each) Mark Dobmeier set his 4th consecutive quick time and 5th of the year with his newly acquired Cale Conley/Fisher Engine as he dropped a lap at 10.882 with an average speed of 110.274 MPH around the 1/3 mile track. Five other guys dropped laps in the 10s with Zomer being 2nd quick ahead of McCarl, Zemken, Peters, and Winters. The rest of the field hitting the heat race invert of 18: Johnn Cressman, Chad Meyer, Garner, Lynton Jeffrey, Gregg Bakker, Robby Wolfgang, Chuck McGillivray, Jody Rosenboom, John Lambertz, Moughan, Glennon, and Troy Meyer.
Time Trials Grade: A; Horsepower conditions on a cool night led to the great times.

Heat 1 Notes: Moughan took the early lead and left the rest of the field in the dust. Zemken grabbed the crucial 5th spot on the start from Dobmeier, but Dobs grabbed it coming off turn four of the first lap. Dobmeier caught Jeffrey after that but couldn't do anything and settled in for the last invert spot on the fast, but still narrow track.

Heat 2 Notes: Glennon sprinted to the lead into turn one while C. Meyer took the runner up spot with a huge slider into turn three past Rosenboom. Zomer was coming and went past Peters and Bakker to get up to 4th early and would later get 3rd as he slid Rosenboom on lap four in turn one. Glennon would hold off a charging C. Meyer for his first career 410 heat win at the track.

Heat 3 Finish: 33 40 23w 11 17A/ 2D 17B (DNF)
Heat 3 Notes: T. Meyer took the lead at the wave of the green with Garner up to 3rd past Lambertz with Winters doing the same for 4th on the initial lap when McCarl spun in turn three. Garner gave T. Meyer a nasty slider into turn three that had the latter checking up to avoid disaster while Wolfgang took the lead just before this. Winters would run down T. Meyer and a good battle would wage for two laps for the 3rd position with Winters finally getting it off turn four.
Heat Grades: B; Good action going on all over the track, just not the widest of tracks to start the heats.
Baete Forseth Back Row Challenge Zomer accepted the $2,500 challenge to start 22nd to get qualified for Monday's $5K bonus for all the drivers that have gone to the back throughout the year. The guys qualified for this: Rosenboom, Bakker, Dobmeier, McGillivray, Cressman, C. Meyer, Winters, Jones, Peters, and the absent Tim Kaeding.

A Feature Notes: Garner screamed off to the lead with C. Meyer falling in behind up on the very, very fast cushion. A lap three spin for Ingle in turn three negated a Dobmeier pass by Winters for fourth. A couple laps after the restart had Dobmeier getting by Winters for that fourth position on the bottom of turn four. The track action up front stayed single-file, but that would all change once the leaders hit lapped traffic.
As that happened, Winters kicked it into gear by getting back by Dobmeier for fourth on lap 10. He would get to third a lap later after passing Cressman down the backstretch with some contact being made and Winters getting into the wall a bit. Winters would then get by C. Meyer for 2nd and then made a bid for the lead in traffic with a nice slider on Garner in turn three. Garner would drive under that and take the lead back into turn one as the lap counter said 13 to go. Garner slid his way into one and got caught behind traffic while Winters went high into one carrying momentum of the corner when contact was made between the two exiting the corner. Garner spun to the bottom of turn two and C. Meyer made heavy contact with Garner with the #4 getting upside down. I can't really say I saw the whole thing, but Winters did get on the brakes to miss Garner's #40, but it did spin him around.
The restart with 14 to go had Winters ahead of Dobmeier, Cressman, Peters, and Jeffrey. Winters had a great start and put about 12 car lengths between him and Dobmeier only to see Dobmeier gradually cut into that lead as they approached traffic. Behind them, Cressman and Peters exchanged two or three sliders for the third spot in some very good racing. Meanwhile, the leaders got to traffic with eight to go and Dobmeier was right behind Winters as they entered it. Winters made a great move down the front stretch to split Lambertz and another lapper with a slidejob into turn one that would be the money-making move. He put enough room between him and Dobmeier that he cruised onto his 2nd win of the year at Huset's, 6th career 410 win, and also pocketed $2,500 for the win for the T&K Transport/Schnee 23w. Dobmeier would finish 2nd in the Senske & Son Transfer/J&J.
A Feature Grade: A-; Great racing into traffic with the full field of cars. Winters apologized after the race on the microphone for the contact with Garner admitting he does not like to win races that way. But he still did what he had to do in traffic to pick up the win.
360s (15 Cars) Joe Riedel powered past polesitter Dusty Wasmund into turn one of the 18 lap event. Carnage happened behind them as Barber drove into Dump's rear tire down the front stretch and hard into the inside wall with Cody Hansen and Ryan Bickett getting together as they tried to get by. All drivers were okay.
Eric Lutz had a good restart and started his charge to the front past the cars of Dump, Dusty Ballenger and Wasmund, but could not fully run down Riedel for the win. Riedel owned a couple of cars in traffic to pick up his 2nd career 360 win at the track, which was also his 2nd of the season. Lutz held on for 2nd while Wasmund hung on for 3rd ahead of Ballenger, in a great battle the last half of the race for the position.
360 Finish: 15 5 9 2D 1 11xs 47 12 24 21/ 77 7x (DNF) 75 17B 4
FOAW: The Butterfield Bad Ass claims the title for this night. After a tough start to the year, things are starting to turn around for the 23w crew. Good runs with the All Stars at Huset's (and getting passed late by the 50th Annual Champ), an 11th at the 360 Nationals, charging through the C to get passed on the last corner, and a win last weekend in Worthington.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: The splitting of traffic down the front stretch by Winters to clinch the win.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: The battle Cressman and Peters had for third behind the front duel was entertaining as hell.
WTF: The push truck driving over the left rear of Cressman's car to push him off for the start of the feature when he slammed on the brakes to avoid another car down pit road..And somehow the 56 sustained no damage and would start in his original spot.
"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Starting 20 minutes late and spending 20 minutes to grade a widening track. Credit given to the track prep though as the track was very racy come feature time.
Mulligan Moment: Scott admitted he was hard on the brakes to avoid Garner, but he just couldn't get slowed up enough to avoid him. Sucks for everyone involved, especially Chad and the crappy luck he has endured all year long.
Head Scratcher: Huset's is done with Cheater's Day it looks like and has replaced the end-of-the-year race with a $2,500 to win JSTS 360 show on Saturday, September 18th. If you didn't know, that is also the same date as the WoO show in Deer Creek. That is where this guy will be, foregoing the 5 minute trek to the local venue for the 3+ hour drive to just south of Rochester.
Thumbs Up: Hot Rod showing his true colors – USD Red! Love hearing the school I keep donating money to get mentioned as Hot Rod was in Orlando for the USD and Central Florida football game the day before. Now let's work on that shout out since the Report is back from the dead.
Thumbs Down: The B-Mods need to go. Those guys seriously can't stay straight for longer than three laps at a time and are the most frustrating things to have to sit through in the stands.
Prime Mover: Not a for-sure mover sticks out other than Dobmeier coming from the 4th row to finish 2nd.
Trophy Queen Grade: N/A
Closing Stat of the Night: Jeffrey will wrap up his first career track title in the States just by starting the heat and features Monday night. Congrats, mate!
On Tap: Winters goes for a $10K weekend with a win Monday night, while the other 10 eligible drivers will be fighting for $7,500 to win with the bonus from Baete Forseth. After this it will be off to Spencer and Deer Creek in two weeks for one last hurrah to end the 2010 racing season.
