I'm planning a trip from TX to visit some friends there in PA and introduce them to the great sport that is Sprint Car racing, but I've run into a problem. I can't find any pit pass pricing on the website for the National Open on the 3rd. Maybe I haven't found the right page on their website? Should I avoid taking my friends to Beer Hill? It's in turn 4, correct? Help out the 'Grove newb, I'm from TX and going to Williams Grove has been on my to do list as long as I've been racing. The next goal after going there, will be to race there.

Try to find Cubic and BRR. Get them together, take a pic and post it on here, okay?

Beer Hill is great ..... very pasionate fans. I just moved to NJ and I enjoy sitting in the 3rd turn grandstand .... great views of cars coming down backstreatch and going into turns. Try to camp out if you can. People start tailgating in the late afternoon. Don't forget your cooler of beer as they don't serve alochol.

The fans will much more amped that weekend because of the "streak". If you can stop by the following week to get the weekly loosey goosey atmosphere.

I would take in a couple different views during the weekend. The Hill is not the best place to stand if you actually want to see most of the track, too many people during the Open. I would think Pit Passes are gonna be $35.

I've been coming to the Grove for the National Open for quite a while now. It's the only time of the year that I get to the place. I've watched races from probably every corner of the track but if you want to make these people fans of the sport, do yourselves a favor and go get a good place down in the infield in turn 1 during the first hot lap sessions of the night on Friday night. Everyone is all amped up for the weekend and when that green flag flies and those cars coming flying down the front stretch and set up for the corner, that adrenaline rush can't be topped by anything other than being in the car. The speed that they carry into the corner, the sound of the motors being run in there as hard as they'll go. Man, is it October 1st yet??
I've been there for probably the better part of the last 20 years for this race. It brings a smile to my face that is so big every time, you'd think I'd never seen it before.

Great Vid Ricci49.
It relayed atmosphere of the place very well, great editing and tunes.
It's only about 7 hours or so from here, definitely on the hit list of places to visit, I love places that have the history and that place has it in droves.

sit on the backstretch unless you like watching racing like you are in "church" - plus you can wander the pits and then walk up to Beer Hill for the CONSI STRETCH where folks from all over the grounds do a little meet and greet while getting a Kraut Dog before the main event.
Beer Hill is turn 3 - not a bad place to stand...the regulars there are a good a bunch of regular guys you will ever meet at the races.
however...since this is a WoO night...keep an eye out for the NASCRAP / SEMI FANS who are basically there to get hammered and buy a Kinser T-shirt..a little 3rd grade street sense will sniff them out.
cubic is still under the radar and has not / will not admit to who he/she is in person - invited to the VIP to sit with us many times and must have been afraid?
yell "hey BRR" in backstretch grandstand - Section A - Row R - we will be hosting a few friends from Ohio so I might not be in my normal seat as I am charitable to travelers and may be down a few rows...I have even TAKEN THE SHIRT OFF MY BACK...and threw it down over the bleachers because they didn't want it either! (Sammy Shirt - Grove Open - 2009 after putting Adam Wilt - the real #15 - in the wall coming out of turn 4)
ricci 49 - excellent overview!

BRR shies away from photo ops...he doesn't like being "tagged".
Can't wait for the National Open!

if it's a sure thing your coming you should seriously think about getting reserved seats on the front stretch. I sat on beer hill for many years but finally got fed up with the fact that you couldn't see the front stretch very well due to the haulers, I moved to the front stretch and can now see the whole track. Camping is the best way to go without a doubt.

Exactly. Former backstretch, current fronstretcher myself. You'll definitely want reserved seats for this race or else a good seat will be hard to find.

Thanks for the advice all! We'll probably be getting pit passes so I can show them around a sprint car, and how they work. I couldn't tell from any of the pictures, but are there any pit bleachers, one of my female companions is clumbsy and broke her leg so she won't be able to walk much. We may just end up with reserved seating like has been recommended. I can't wait! The race was awesome last year in Speed, it should be 10x better in person. We'll only be going for Saturday night, we've got other plans for Friday evening.
Edit: I'll be bringing my gear just in case someone is in need of a driver  you never know when an opporunity will present itself.

O. K. racrguy, a few quick questions. Do you like ice skating? Do you like throat choking dust? How about tons of fireworks debris on the track? If your answer to these questions is "yes", then you should have been to the GREED last night! For a mere $20.00, you could have observed a slippery, dusty track, with a time-out to clean up fireworks debris! O.K., Kreitz's drive in the third 20 lapper was solid, but as for the rest............No! Still, the trip will be worthwhile, because you will get to mingle and learn from the most knowledgeable sprint car fans on the planet! Dat's da fact Jack, I mean racrguy!...........E-Mods.

check out the back stretch pit grandstands on the outside of turn 2...take ear plugs - very close to the track + no mufflers!
