SPRINT CARS HIGHLIGHT MID-AMERICA SPEEDWAY LABOR DAY SPECIAL

by John Lemon

Tulsa, Oklahoma (August 30, 2010)Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars return to Mid-America Speedway for a Labor Day holiday speed fest. OCRS last took to the Speedplant on July 31st where point leader and defending champion Jamie Passmore took the main event win in his G.A.P. Roofing #4j sprinter. Passmore comes into this Saturday nights race having won three of the last four events. A victory this holiday weekend will make for a three peat as Passmore has also won the last two events held.

Multiple challengers loom to put an end to Passmore's current streak including:

David Stephenson: Gave Passmore all he could handle at Tri-State Speedway last Saturday night. Stephenson has switched from XXX chassis to an F5 Twister chassis and results are showing immediately. Stephenson will be in the black number 1 machine.

Mike Goodman: Another racer utilizing the Twister chassis, the former OCRS series champion is always a threat to take the victory anytime he hits the track. Despite missing a race earlier in the season, Goodman sits third in the 2010 championship standings. Premier / Camelot Homes and Mid America Speedway are backers for the #4am racer.

Rafe Essary: Currently second in OCRS points, Essary has two wins on the 2010 OCRS tour campaign with wins coming at Tri-State Speedway in May and at Mid America back on June 19th. More triumphs by Essary would go a long way in closing the current points gap (1470 – 1215) between he and Passmore.

Danny Smith: Another two time winner in 2010, Smith currently holds the fifth spot in OCRS points just 22 markers back of the fourth spot. After tire woes in his heat race last Saturday night, Smith roared back from dead last to collect a fifth place finish in the 5$ Same Day Auto Repair special.

Travis Jenkins: A main event winner on May 29th at MAS, Jenkins is still looking to find the elusive second win of the season. "Hollywood" is a teammate to Goodman driving the black Premier / Camelot Homes and Mid-America Speedway sponsored #4pm car. Hollywood is coming off a strong fourth place finish from last Saturday night.

Brady Demeree: The 2010 Brodix Cylinders / Broken Arrow Lawn and Garden rookie of the year contender took the podium by finishing third at Tri-State for his best showing of the season. The youngster in the #15d "Cash For Cars" special is very capable of improving two more positions. Keep an eye on this talented youngster.

Terry Easum: The speedster from Inola, Oklahoma leads Demeree for the 2010 OCRS rookie honors by only 20 points (765-745). Easum is another racer coming off a great showing at Tri-State having started in the 16th hole and moved up to earn a sixth place finish. Easum has shown flashes of being a first time winner this year and he would surprise nobody if he sacks the field this week in his Ameri Cash #88.

A host of others including Tim Kent, Fred Mattox, Shayla Waddell, Kyle Clark and more will look to put a cork in Mr. Passmore's champagne bottle. This event will mark OCRS' last scheduled stop to the Speedplant in 2010. Come on out for a holiday showing of speed, skill and grit determination by some of the best drivers the area has to offer.

Mid America Speedway is a 3/10 mile, medium banked clay oval. Track location is: 2 miles south of the Oklahoma / Kansas state line just off HWY 169. Take HWY 169 to road EW-02 then go west 1/2 mile to racetrack.

Gates open at 5pm with racing getting underway at 8pm

OCRS drivers meeting will begin at 7pm.

Track phone: 918-829-8490.

We are running John, going back to Lawton , gotta try and stay close to home and finish one before we venture off to an OCRS show ,The Hog Wagon has not taken a Checkered Flag since Memorial Day Weekend that Sunday night that we won at Creek, but if we can get that dam Monkey off our back and finish well then I see OCRS races in The Hog Wagon's future.

Besides Barry told me at Lawton several weeks ago that if we would come and run OCRS he would get a jug of Ice Tea and put er in the cooler and he'd share if 1i does'nt drink it all before it gets to the race track, Although with the Fall fastly approaching maybe Hot Coffee or Hot Choc. maybe in order???, surely 1i does not like those beverages as well???.

South Coffeyville will be a good show Sat.,like that race track. J.D.

Am I to assume this race is on Monday (Labor Day)?

Interesting that the press release doesn't say.

John, I would really like to go to Bellville but doubt it will happen , have not been there since 81 WoO show, Hell anymore when I race the Hog Wagon, it just wears me out and takes me a day to recover from the late night and the travel and all that and the Sunday Car Wash is hard on a fat boy.

But I am going to BMS tomorrow and support the local area racing facility as it is $10 Car Load night and that will enable me to afford some fine refreshements at the concession stand like a Hot Dog and some Popcorn and a glass of ICE TEA and one of those tasty suckers from the candy shelf, Yep a Cool Crisp Fall evening with the smell of Popcorn and Methanol both lingering in the air, maybe I might run across Erich P. (Catpuppy) and tell him that his new ride looks nice and we can solve all the area's racing problems in the grandstands tomorrow night.

I'm going to need a radio for OU too. Wanted to tape it but its on pay per view for $35. Going to show my frugal side here but I'm not paying $35 to witness a massacre. wink
