That's a great photo from my favorite track ever. Loved it when the Bowl was heavy like that!
I will admit I've spent the last 5 minutes or so trying to research the Doty win comment. I realize that Lanny ran plenty of non-sanctioned events but I keep thinking Brad's first WoO win was at OKC/Western World Nationals. I don't know. It wasn't evil intentions for me to look it up... I was intrigued by the comment.
Brad had some incredible drives, I recall a daytime Bowl race running the Stanton 75 where he was the only guy (for awhile at least) running the cushion... and it paid off. Documented in an Open Wheel article. '84 I believe.
Great pic, great drivers... all is good in the world!

Doty's first WoO win was indeed in OKC on 4/24/1983...Wolfie set QT.

Well there is one thing about it, with "Doty" being mentioned as the topic you know he will more than likely get on here and tell us about the photo. I am sure it was a non-sanctioned WoO show but did he have a prelim victory on that night? Remember Ted didn't recognise prelims as main even victories.

Kind of a rare picture in the fact that Ferkel has side nerfs.

I must be missing some part of the process, because posting a quote to a reply seems excessively awkward to do.
I recall, years ago, before weight rules, some people were removing nerf bars for time trials.
I also remember asking Danny Smith at a race why they ran zoomies and his only reply was "lighter" that was it.

Great pic -- I sure wish the wing's right side-panels were like that again - the way they are now the fans basically can't see the driver from the stands unless the cars are on the backstretch...
