I posted a reply earlier about Jake, the post is now proubly old news , I was curious if he wears a hans? sounds like a bad injury that could be serious? Im extreemly concerned with my saftey and am just looking for more drivers and direct crew members that have a little input on the subject? was King outfitted with a Hans? ( I thought I seen one in a photo of Steve,) we all know " Big E " was old school and did not, even if it was avalible? , would he be alive today , if ? ,the "Wolf "took his share of spills would he still drive today if ? some injuries are not avoided, but could some be less tramatic? If anyone can shed some light? please post, thanks

Hans don't protect you from trauma to the head, all they really protect is your head from stretching too far and hurting your neck. You probably want to get some sort of full containment seat if you are really worried about it (I have a Butler Built). With the full containment seat, hans, and a good helmet you are about as protected as possible in a sprinter.

I have talked in depth with Brian Butler of Butlerbuilt seats and he made a few things very clear about sprint car seating and safety devices.

First I'll say to call him and ask for his opinion. He doesnt sell Hans or anything else, but he does work with them all and can help you out with that kind of information. It really is the total package and not JUST the hans or JUST the seat etc...

Guys I have talked to said they have learned how to crash, and they did not like the fact that you could not look around with the Hans on, I however, purchased a hans after talking in depth with Butlerbuilt. Take it for what it's worth. I will be a rookie and have no idea how to crash, im sure I will learn quickly...haha

A few of the guys that wrecked huge at Knoxville last weekend had what looked to be hans devices on. I can not tell you for sure as I was sitting in the stands.

I personally do not trust the straps that wrap around your body. I dont understand why you would want your body to be used as the tether for your neck.

Take any of this for what it's worth. GO TO THE SOURCE!! call butler's, look around the pits, etc. I was told about a couple of different sprint car deaths and some of the details behind them but I dont want to post them here. Email me if you want to know about that stuff.

Hope this helps, or maybe I just wasted the time you took to read this! Think of the safety aspect as a complete system "the sum of it's parts"

I believe some of the fatalities you mentioned were actual trauma to the head. Cheese is correct, the hans is designed to help eliminate basil skull fractures, not blunt force trauma. I would suggest spending huge amounts of money on engines and tires to get you out front and away from trouble. Good luck!

gdude, Funney you should say that, been there, your exactly right! Around my area the hans is just starting to be more of a familiarity, so, we dont have alot of drivers that can point out what they liked or disliked ? Ive made the nessasary upgrades in a few areas,

I love driving, I also love living, and puching in to work in the morning is always a plus ,

the stretching of any spine/neck area will possibly cause a nervous system trama, #1, your eyes are compose of many nervs , I also understand internal organs will not stop in motion as quickly as you or your car might, another scary fact , SlowSprint, as for crashing correctly? I will say this , grasp wheel like your gonna drop your wifes wedding cake, pull your feet off the pedals /"slide heels back quickly" (expecially gas, brakes dont work while your in the air) put you head in fetal position , and scream , HOLYSH*T!!!!

We use a LaJoie seat for 2 years and after one hard crash the drive found a dislike to that seat. We purchased a use butler seat and took a hard hit from someone going over next to use. the Butler seat was a better feel for the driver. This year we ordered 2 new seats, These seats are by far the best full containment seats I have seen in a long time, there is alot of areas that they have added metal to to strengthen their seats.

the whole seat issue (In my mind) has really taken off in the past five years, over the past few years I have heard stories good and bad about drivers and thier testimonials, when saftey products have been put to the test , the consturction and new additions of containment packages on seats have really become a thing of today I guess most seats today will perform as well as possible, keeping in mind ,evey hit and/or tumble is never the same as well as drivers physical condition, wieght , and ability to flex, I love the sport, I just hope we can keep drivers on the track not the hospital . although seats do not directly effect a cars speed I like to look at it this way, a driver with comfort and confidence ,will be a fast one!

Argue all you want, when it comes down to the bottom of it everyone at Bulter Built they bulid the best damn seat out there. If you want to debate it go ahead but before you do that go here. Chad got T Boned last weekend by Mike Chadd and walked away because of his seat. thank you

my post was not a invitation for competition on saftey products? if a driver can walk away unharmed you win in my book , I looked at the photos ( with the sickness of how cars can get that used up), it is interesting to see just how wrong things can get and the reality , I hate overlooking someones crashed ride ,in the same token (as a driver) I like to prepare myself for the worst , has, or does, Chad seriously consider the double saftey cage (RH) arm bar? maybe he ran one in the past? It looks like that might have helped a little ,I have seen a couple different styles out there, I personally run both, I discussed with fellow drivers the other day about how little protection is on that side of the majority of cars, with that in mind which is the better of two evils the protection, or not being abel to exit the car quickley, the arm bars do not effect my exit, although a upper halo might? , at ,anyrate Im glad he is ok
