Folks, I am sorry I could not save the track. I started to cry as I was sitting there looking at the grandstand. While sitting in my truck I let out an apology to the track. As I was coming home I called Uncle and I told him that now it has hit.

I do however want you to put this pic somewhere in your memory and remember it every time our glorious leaders of Okc speak.

Unfortunately, I drove by, too. Grandstand looked like a corpse, very sad.

I just got a picture on the phone tht is much worse. She is going fast.

A part of my life for 40 yrs is disappearing as we speak.

This is how I felt when I was a kid & Springlake Amusement Park was closed & bulldozed.

What year did Springlake get demolished? I remember going there as a kid every summer for my dads company picnic for American Crane and Thomas Concrete. The best part of that park for me was the lift that would take you across the park and the train ride.

I meant when I said to boo, hiss and throw ice chips at the city powers to whenever you're where they are.

We lost Wedgewood Village and Springlake Amusement Park. In the 60's I went to a Beach Boys concert and several others at both parks. Then we lost Oklahoma City Raceway(San Valley-Jimmy Nix Raceway among the many names), Willowrun Raceway on I 40 and Choctaw Road, and now Fairgrounds Speedway. On many occassions a group of us would come up from Pauls Valley and watch the races at Fairgrounds Speedway, sleep in the car, head out to San Valley on Saturday, spend the day, sleep in the car again, and head out to Willow Run for a day of racing. Awesome week ends. We had the NHRA and the old AHRA both represented at the drag strips, saw my first top fuel 6 second pass, will never forget that sight, now door slammer cars can run in the 6's at Thunder Valley.

The one constant in all of this time was Fairgrounds Speedway. All those years of Friday nights planned out March through early September. Sad to say, but I missed the last race at the Speedway being down with the flu. Maybe we will get lucky and have a person with more money than brains come to town and build us a privately owned first class facility like Outlaw Motor Speedway, but by that time I will probably be drolling down my shirt and eating soup through a straw, so hopefully the two grandkids will have a place their dad can take them to on a weekly basis just as he and I did for close to 30 years.
