After watching the Knoxville Nationals , races at Knoxville , Oskaloosa and other tracks , I think it's time that Goodyear answers all the questions that surrounds this tire issue with this new tire that supposedly provides better racing for fans ? This tire caused at least 6 accidents during the Knoxville week or more ,has caused concern for fans , drivers , safety issues and lost countless races for drivers this year as part of there new contract with tracks , WRG and with other businesses that sell or support this new tire . We all know how this new tire rule came about , which was a quick cure for lack of a sponsor for a certain racing group , so now it's time to give more positive answers and to do more R & D for next year or I SAY BRING BACK HOOSIER TIRES FOR NEXT YEAR and break this contract & maybe have a open tire rule , as this tire rule really has not saved any real money for the teams unless they had a tire deal with Hoosier or other companies exclusively .

Goodyear has contracts and made a ton of money...they had a successful weekseason ..so ..why would they respond to anything...the tracks -series got money for the points fund..if a hand full of guys got screwed /injured/destroyed a lot of costly equipment......to bad...money makes the world go round not integrity..are you going to buy goodyear tires for your street vehicle? After seeing the poor quality shit they sell racers?

I SAY SHUT THE HELL UP AND QUIT YOUR GOD DAMN BITCHING! Ask Joey Saldana two years ago how those Hoosiers worked for him. He blew a lot of those Damn tires while leading and some when he wasn't. Show me the perfect tire and I'll show You a liar.

over 200 winged sprint cars, who knows how many laps, is 6 blown tires an issue? Seem to me to be about the normal amount of tire problems as the last 20 or so nationals to me

Those complaining need to post statistics to prove their point. Provide a comparitive analysis of Goodyear's recent performance compared to to Hoosier over the last 3-4 years (due to technology, anything beyond five years is probably going to be misleading). All I read are post claiming there have been more blown tires and drivers are upset, but never read any statistical truth to prove the theory. Sammy may not like the tires; he certainly seems to have had more trouble than most, but the issues could be due to his set-ups and driving style being a poor combination with the tire. There is certainly some truth to Saldana (and others) having trouble in recent years with the Hoosiers as well. How much trouble compared to the other tire is the question.

I'm not even beginning to claim I know which has performed better, but a blown tire is not a new thing in sprint car racing and I haven't noticed a drastic difference while following the WoO on dirtvision and keeping tabs on Knoxville/Williams Grove throughout the year online. A statistical analysis would be very beneficial for either side of the story.

After a car or cars wreck because of blown Goodyear tire, the drivers should hand the repair bill to Goodyear.

I talked to a driver earlier this year and he stated that they have never seen so many tire problems. He stated that they have even seen tires, when air added, that they are not even round. How would that make you feel? That would not give anyone a good feeling would it. Has only one noticed that many of the blown tires are the left ones? Wonder how Dale Blaney felt the Saturday before the nationals and he destroyed a car because of a blown tire? I saw Chad Meyer destroy a car at Huron, guess what a left rear tire blown. Sammy, Paul Mcmahan, Brian Brown, and Tyler Walker all had $ taken away because of blown tires. I need tires for my passenger car and rest assured they will not be goodyears, I'm lucky I can chose, the sprint car teams have no choice.

I understand that money talks. But I also understand that competition makes things better.

I think it is counterproductive to mandate a certain tire brand. Let the drivers decide.

Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

fastfan, I think for the most part you could be "preaching" to the choir! Smile

Shucks, it seems like I recall a few "similar" stories when they went to Hossier a few years back.

I think it boils down to, "I hated to see ____________________ have that tire problem. He/she would have won if that tire had just held together for another 14 laps! Smile

Blaney didn't blow a tire, he peeled it off the rim when he sent to make entry into the corner. (I was there and the replay on the closed circuit TV confirmed it).

Schatz had the same thing happen a few years ago on the opening lap of the Nationals (last time Lasoski won).

I will say this about the tires. Last year, the guys that had tire issues seem to be the same ones that have tire issues this year.....and the tires aren't discriminating, blown tires, Schatz (albiet after the checker but with 3 or 4 to go @ Knoxville in June), Dobmeier, Brown, Swindell (these all at Knoxville), as well as Kinser, Lasoski, McMahon, Meyers, Rahmer, DeWease, Saldana at other tracks across the country.

Are the tires terrible, yes and no. Are they as good as the Hoosier tires as far as Grip? Heck No'

Are the tires better than the ones they were running 10-15 years ago (probably about the same which is what is making the teams mad). All teh $$ they spent on better motors, wings, etc. is no longer winning them races, the driver has been brought back into the mix.

It's the same tires for everyone, not just a select few guys. Had Goodyear been giving out specific tires to certain drivers and giving the "junk" to everyone else, I'd say there is a reason to complain.

A great by-product of the tires being terrible: GREAT RACING (it's made the drivers drive again and not just gotten every car hooked up).

At the risk of allowing facts to confuse the issue ..... the move to Goodyear tires this year has had a posative impact on many aspects of Sprint Car racing at Knoxville ..... and other tracks.

1. The racing overall night after night has been significantly better "because the tires don't tear up the track". Part of it is the tire construction, part is the harder compounds available. Less rework during the events, more forgiving on a bad night, faster shows.

2. Many of the early tire issues this season came from trying to run "low" tire pressures.

3. Unless my memory has finally given out, (oldtimers disease) there were no more tire failures during this years Nationals than last year with the Hoosiers.

4. In receat years the good promoters accross the country were getting a "piece of the action" regardless of whose tire was the house brand.

5. For the most part tire prices and compounds for the teams are closer to level than anytime in recent history.

6. I see more mid-pack drivers and teams moving up in the field.

My views come from having been a former driver, owner, promoter .... and now a dyed in the wool weekly paying fan.

From experience, I can say that there is nothing wrong with the tires. It is what the teams are doing with them. I have been running with Goodyears on three corners of the car for the past season and a half, by choice, and have had not one tire failure or tire that I felt didn't last as long as I liked. At one race in particular, on a really abrasive track, the tires I ran had as much wear as the Hoosiers and American Racers that were pitted next to me. Tire failures for me, non-existent. So, I don't believe that there is anything wrong with the tires at all, and if the Hoosier was made the spec tire, I think that the same teams would be having the same tire problems. I have run on sand tracks, clay tracks, and sandy clay tracks, and have not had a tire do what people complain of them doing.

That being said, I like the idea of tire competition... I would love to see a minimum durometer rule with open branding on all four corners... I think that tire competition would have a subsidiary benefit of shutting you people up who just like to complain about tires. So, whenever Sammy blows a Hoosier, then there would be nothing to complain about.

Just curious, is your experience on a 410 at a fast half mile?

No, your wrong. I guarantee you that you are lying. Tires have never been an issue until this season. And what has changed this season? O ya, that's right! Goodyears instead of Hoosiers. When tires alone cost 2 of the top running 3 sprinters in the KNOXVILLE NATIONALS a chance to have their names etched into history forever, then it becomes a HUGE deal. Hoosiers are the best and they need to come back. How would you feel if you led most of the laps of the biggest race in the world only to succumb to a blown tire!?!?! These things suck and need to be outlawed by the Outlaws. That's it!
I'd rather be in Knoxville.
