31 cars.
FT: Ripper
Heat 1: A. Williams, Gaunt, Rutherford
Heat 2: Crawford, Kruser, Mitchell
Heat 3: Murphy, Hendricks, Gardner
Heat 4: Miller, Mack, Jones
B Main: Spencer, J. VanDerWeerd, Bud Kaeding, R. VanDerWeerd, Carlile
A Main: Miller, Rutherford, Kaeding, Spencer, Ripper, Faria, Kruser, Gardner
Track had high and middle grooves only most of the night (it's cool and humid here).
Gaunt led the first six laps, then Blake passed him and ran away until lap 17. Rickie said afterward that after the last long red flag on lap 17 that his setup improved and he was (clearly) able to run with Blake for a time. Late in the race however, he said he was driving into fuel spray and "going blind." That's why he lost control on the back straight in the final lap.
Tony Jones went up to the wall in turn two on lap 11 and got hit. No injury that I know of. Danny Faria barely made it into the A Main but came through to 6th from 15th. Other names on the track: Davey Pombo. Nick Faas, Showtime, Cody Williams. Lots of WS 360 and Ventura cars.
Big crowd. Good night for Chris.

It was pretty amazing, i observed the childish antics of ronnie gardner. since the moment that team arrived he and his dad did nothing but scream and yell and throw things. Looked like a typical spoiled brat. Someone needs to give that little boy a good A$$ whooping. I would be embarrased if i was associated with that team and i had respected what the gardeners had brought to non wing racing over the years. Seems like USAC should do a SUPER NANNY intervetion because that was absolutely ridiculous.

Very good race report raj. Only one item I might have to disagree with - it was frigid cold! I hope everything worked out great for the track promoter as he certainly aims to please the race fans. Not much you can do about the cold in August. Congratulations to Blake Miller and Troy Rutherford (a really good run for him) as well as Bud Kaeding. Hope USAC/CRA schedules a few more races at this track next year. Missed seeing brothers Matt and Randy.

I was there Bob, Randy unfortunately had to go to a wedding down in Hemet. I think he had more heat by maybe just a few degrees....haha. I saw you at the very end of the night as you were heading down the entry hill but I was heading the other way trying to meet up with my ride home for the night. It was a cold evening for sure, coldest summer here I can remember. Great night of racing for my money and the tacos were awesome.

I came down from above Sacramento, and thought the racing was GREAT! It appears that Chris Kearns has done a good job preserving what Doug Fort started there in Santa Maria, it looked better cared for than when I was there a few years back.
And the weather was not so cold. Sure it was cool for mid August, but I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with a light fleece jacket and was plenty comfortable. When the racing is good, who cares what the climate is.

Im really sorry you feel that way poeny, i do appoligise for my actions early in the night as me and my dad had gotten in a argument over something and i was heated. That was out of line to do in front of everybody. we put alot of time and money in to this and when something doesnt go your way you get mad about it. its something everybody has done from time to time. as far as me needing a a** whooping im guessing you have never met me cause im far from spoiled..just got a little mad thats all. please post your name and who you help and i would like to say sorry in person.

I would like to thank all of the fans and racers for attending our event at Santa Maria Speedway. Like I said in the drivers meeting, I am honored and humbled to Promote an event with the quality of drivers that attended.
I also want to mention that I think Steve Ostling and the entire USAC staff did an excellent job of running Saturdays event. Thank you.
