So, for the current mechanics out there, what's the situation on the rear tires available for Saturday night? If the track is abrasive, what Goodyear options are there and what are the odds that they'll go 50 laps? Curious as to the theories and strategies being made. Thanks.

Tire choice shouldn't be much of a concern. The way it was explained to me there will be a five minute open red flag sometime between laps 25 and 30, during which teams may refuel AND change tires without penalty.

If Johnny is correct, the deciding factor will be if rubber gets laid down and how soon. I'd look for guys to bolt a 200 on early and maybe a 300 if the rubber is down. If it's a reg track or sticky, I'll go with 100 and then a 200.

I was about to start a thread on that topic. Wayne Johnson spoke about that some on Hoseheads Radio during the 360 Nationals. Certainly changes some original thoughts I had about the feature. IMO it is a good idea. I had a concern (like many) that one of the great things about sprint car racing is they are designed to go balls to the wall for the duration of the event. If the above is the case, then they should be able to throw the hammer down for all 50 laps instead of biding time and saving tires... to a degree.

THANK GOD they're going to let them change tires, or we'd have another 2004 King's Royal. Trust me, you don't want this to be a fuel mileage/tire saving race, it would be boring. You ever been to the Syracuse 200-lap modified race? You don't want the Knoxville Nationals to turn into that.

rogue, I am not here to start a "fight' over this issue. I am OLD and a purist when it comes to sprint cars. To me, sprint cars should have a sprint race.

If they want fuel and tire stops let them start running asphalt and Nascar buy them out.

Next thing you know, your local track will have 30 lap features with a red a lap 15 for....you got it...fuel and tires!

As badly as I hate to say this, USAC might start getting some new fans! Smile

All this for our enjoyment!

That is exactly the reason that it should have stayed as a 30 lap race.

No pit stop necessary.

I voted for 30 laps, but what I'm saying is if they run 50, I would rather they change tires.

I'd rather they didn't so after this year they would stop this nonsense of "sprint" car races with built in pit stops.

Also go back to "FULLY" inverted heat races. In a 10 car race that would mean inverting all 10 cars.
