Just curious....why did they allow him to push off in his heat race after the pace truck had pull into the pits and the track lights had been turned off preparing for the start?

The position of the pace truck doesn't seem to matter at knoxville, What does seem matter is where the cars are in relation to the start of the race. I've seen them let cars push off as long as it was still safe to do so. I've seen them push off when the lead car was about mid back strect but not much further than that.
Most of the time they will push the car off after the pace truck has pulled in and the cars are passing by on the front stretch... as the last car goes by the push the car off so he's already in the proper position for the start/restart
