I'm so stoked, I had to say something on here, my son will get to see his first Nationals this year! We originally had a trip to the Dells planned, but when my wife found out I wanted to take him to Knoxville she said go.
It's only for Saturday night, which sucks, but after not going for a couple years I'm happy. When he gets a little older we'll be there for the whole thing I'm sure. We gotta start somewhere.
Sorry just had to share.

Sounds like you have a great and thoughtful wife there - hoping you and your son have a great time!

That is sooooo awesome. My son has been to almost every race this year. He has also been there for every feature that we have won. Too cool. He really likes Austin McCarl and Robbie Wolfgang. They are both great with the kids. So if you get the chance, take him to the pits and let him meet those two young men. They are two true ambassador's of our sport.

Yeah he will have hearing protection. When we saw the Outlaws at La Salle he would hardly take them off, which I don't mind. He loves the races, but not crazy about how loud they are. I'm sure that will grow on him.
And yes have an awesome wife. She knows our son is already hooked on sprint cars after only two races. When I told her this was the 50th running of the Nationals and how it will mean something to him someday to say he was there. she couldn't say no.

Sounds good..get him started early...My dad took me to the Phoenix 100 on the dirt in 1955 and it hooked me....have fun...pork chop, cruise the back of the grandstand, walk around the back area by the trailers, working on cars.....Hall of Fame....it is great

My son is going to his first Nationals this year too! Only thing is, he's going to be 40 later this year. But, his boys (7 & 10) are going to their first nationals too! We couldn't make the trip when my kids were growing up, but when I retired three years ago, I put sprint car races at the top of my list and started taking the grandsons. Dad came along the second year and got hooked! Hopefully this is the start of many trips to Knoxville for all of us. I'm leaving Sat. to catch the 360 finals and they are making Knoxville the last stop on their vacation and will make Thur. - Sat. Boys love going to the pits after a race.

I remember my first trip to a sprint car race. I was 6 or 7 and it was just one of the weekly races at Knoxville, but it was amazing to me. I still remember one of the older guys in our group of people that go to Knoxville teaching me what a slidejob was.

Shane & Gman make time to look over the teams prepping the cars before the nights event,(backstreach-track entry -pizza hut -north, ect) most teams are in a comfortable mood to be approachable (know your limits , some teams might have had a tough night, just a lil FYI) , again, this is something that gave me (as a child) a lasting impression that has made me a driver today , I would have KILLED to sit in a car as a youngster! we just never knew the right connections, keep the camera handy! twenty years from now, hopefully those kids will cherish the photos ! If I were attending to race, Id give them kids the royal treatment , have a ball!
