Two in A Row For Becker

By: Troy Hennig

(Chico, CA 4-20-07)…Oroville driver Sean Becker continued his winning ways at Silver Dollar Speedway last night by winning the 20-lap main event for the second week in a row. Becker passed early leader Andy Forsberg on lap 13 to secure the popular win. "You know you're doing something right when you pass Forsberg on the outside at Chico," said Becker in victory lane referring to the pass for the win. "I just have to thank the team and my family for everything we've accomplished this year." Becker and team won the $2,000 payday during Chico Volkswagen night at the races. "It's good feeling to take $4,000 out of Chico in a seven day span," said co-owner Kyle Main talking about last Friday's $2,000 win. "I'm just proud of how this team has come together when a lot of people doubted us coming into this season," said co-owner Tom Fisher of the JEI chassis Cherry St. Mini Storage Rolling Hills Reality #35m.

At the start of the main event Andy Forsberg grabbed the early lead. Fellow front row starter Stephen Allard fell into the second spot. On lap two a yellow came out for a car spun, however, a scary moment was about to happen. Rookie driver Zack West had his front end collapsed and he drifted through the infield. Inadvertently, he clipped back straight official Ed Kinkle. Even though the contact with Kinkle looked serious, I am happy to report Kinkle was treated and released from Enloe Hospital with no broken bones or serious injuries and was ready to work the following night at Placerville Speedway. The race resumed with Forsberg the leader and Allard in second. On the ensuing lap Becker drove by Allard for second. On lap four hard charger Jason Statler passed two drivers and moved into the fourth spot. Becker shadowed Forsberg for the next five laps. On lap eleven Brad Sweet got turned on his side when he and Stephen Allard bumped wheels down the front stretch. Both drivers were trying to pass a slower car and it just happened to be one of the racing things. Sweet's car was repaired and he continued on.

On the restart Becker went to the high side of the track. Forsberg was rolling around the bottom. Even though Becker was not able to make the pass on the restart, it was clear to see that he was faster running up near the top in turns one and two. On the next lap Becker drove deep into turn one and made passed Forsberg for the lead coming out of turn two. From this point on Becker began to pull away from the rest of the field. Stephen Allard went on to pass Forsberg for the second spot. Allard's finish was his best of the year at Chico. Forsberg finished in the third spot and after the races seemed happy with his run. Statler came home in the fourth spot. Jonathan Allard finished in fifth and earned extra money from the website www.theskipperpartys.net by finishing the main event in that spot.

Chico's Bret Miller started in the eleventh spot and finished sixth. Korey Lovell scored a top ten finish by coming home in seventh. Chico's Robbie Whitchurch finished eighth and continued his string of good finishes. Congratulations to rookie driver Mason Moore who finished ninth and scored his first ever top ten finish at Silver Dollar Speedway in the 410 division. Brad Sweet rebounded from the rollover to finish tenth.

Andy Gregg led all 12-laps to secure the B main event victory. Moore finished second and was followed by Zack West, Chris Masters and Mike Stallings. All five drivers made the feature event.

Stephen Allard, Jason Botsford and Robert Stice all dominated their individual heat races and pocketed the wins.

Sean Becker started the night off by turning the quickest lap at 12.195.

Marrs, Papenhausen and Bartlett all Winners at Chico on Friday Night

(Chico, CA 4-20-07)…Marysville driver Charlie Marrs secured a well-deserved win on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway during the wingless spec 20-lap main event.  The former dirt modified track champion drove the Joe Hunt Magneto #7 into victory lane after holding off point leader Billy Wallace.  Marrs was very happy in victory lane despite a unique thing that happened after the checkered flag.  Coming out of turn four he was trying to hold off Wallace for the win as the two drag raced to the checkered flag.  Marrs got the close win at the stripe but going into turn one he carried too much momentum and rode up over a slower car and flipped.  It’s something not often seen from a race winner, upside down and needing to be flipped back on all four.  But it didn’t tarnish the win and the team was very happy in victory lane.  Wallace was a close second.  Jay Youngman finished in the third spot.  Cody Myers enjoyed a strong run to finish fourth.  Tony Richards rounded out the top five.

Chico’s Richard Papenhausen took the lead from Mark Abouzeid early in the dirt modified main event and held on to get the win.  Papenhausen survived challenges from Ryan McDaniel to get the win.  McDaniel dropped out late in the race and finished last.  It was Chico Volkswagen night at the races.  Abouzeid is the owner of the store and started on the pole position.  With 200 employees, family and friends looking on Abouzeid had the early lead but on lap three his night took a downward spiral when he parked it in turn one.  Abouzeid never gave up, restarted the race and tried to charge to the front.  He ended up finishing in the fourth spot.  Even though the finish might not of been what he wanted, the night was a success as far as Chico Volkswagen was concerned.  Darin Ruley had a career best second place finish in the main event.  Dave Duste Jr. finished third.

One of Silver Dollar Speedway’s most popular drivers this year got her first win Friday night.  Chico’s Heather Bartlett won the 20-lap pure stock main event.  It was also her first career win at Silver Dollar Speedway.  She is a two-time Orland Speedway mini-stock champion.  This year she is trying to win rookie of the year and championship honors in the pure stocks.  Paul Stephens battled hard but finished second.  Guy Bean made a rare appearance at Chico and finished third.  Jeremy Stone finished in the fourth spot and Robert Mull finished fifth.

Stephens won the first pure stock heat race.  Jay Galvin dominated the second heat race.

Jay Youngman, Brandon Davis and Billy Wallace were victorious in the wingless heat races.

Mark Abouzeid won the lone dirt modified heat race.
