Highbanks Speedway lives!
Highbanks Speedway is being brought back to life by a former
racer and his father-in-law.
Dave Bohannon and Keith Sanders have purchased the 75
acres for $187,000 and plan to cut a new clay track, construct
some new buildings and remodel the facility in time for opening
on April 2, 2011.
Bleachers at the facility will accommodate 5,000 to view the
three-eighths mile "dirt" track racing.
"We just wanted to invest in the community give the people
something to do," said Sanders, who raced at Highbanks, and
did pretty well, but does not plan to race when it reopens with
himself as part of the track ownership.
Sanders, a 1988 graduate of Salina High, said the racetrack
was a going concern and failed because the previous owner
was going through a divorce and experienced cash flow problems
that kept her from keeping the business going.
"It was good before and it's going to be better than it ever
was," said Sanders.

Great news!
Good to hear about one coming back to life and not one shutting down!
Good luck and I hope the "locals" support the track.
