Need to buy a lap top (and printer) to take on the road so I can quit writing out lineups and results by hand and do things there at the track to cut down on the time. Any suggestions on where to check and how much do you think I could get a quality one for?
I checked Best Buy and there is a good one for $599 (a Dell) but kinda want one cheaper if possible.
Thank you in advance......

You get what you pay for. Old Paris Flea market has bargans, but watch out for the pre loaded Mexican Porn.
Thank God for Hooter's

The guys at Computer Masters on Douglas in MWC have been asked this several times by me & by other customers I 've seen them wait on.
The 2 guys that work there were recommending Best Buy & saying a Toshiba is the most durable & dependable for the $$.
I am not in the Comp Masters store enough to rememeber their names, but drop by there & I am sure they will be happy to give you the details.
Hope this helps.

Stay away from Dell Laptops unless you want to pay $100.00+ for a battery when they go bad. Dell puts a chip in the battery so you can't use a aftermarket battery.
Depending on the screen size that you want but if you want to travel with it don't get one that is too big. A 15.6 is a good size to travel with. When you are at home you can always hook up a bigger monitor to it.
Here is a link to a 15.6 Toshiba that is on sale for $499. I also like Toshiba laptops.

David:
3 words.............Buy A MAC!
I am very open to the fact that I can be a very frugal person when it comes to dipping into my bank account. When I was looking for a laptop a couple of years ago, I set my sights on anything under $1,000. I have co-workers who had vast experience in owning multiple laptops. After doing my own research and listening to what my peers had to say, I made a decision to hit the Apple store and get a Mac.
To write the check I wrote was PAINFUL! I don't think I got over it for 3-4 months. For what my two cents is worth, it's the best move I could of made! This thing is so smooth to use, very lightweight and is way ahead of its competition in what it can do.
Now that the time has past as it has, I don't feel the financial pain I did at the time and I have an awesome unit.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

David, have you looked into a "netbook"? The Toshiba Mini NB300 series, looks ideal for what you're needing. Its small, light weight, travel friendly, and has up to an 8 hr battery life. The NB300 series starts at $349.99. I imagine Best Buy would be pretty good bet, or you could order it online.
I like dirt!

Here is my solution for ya a cheaper way David, get NCRA to get ya an Assistant, tell Mr. Hall to open up the check book because Mr. Smith needs an Assistant. Buy them a Big Cheif Pencil, a couple of Writing Pads and a good Head Light Visor for those not so well lit raceways and also for those long drives home in the car, ya can hire one with multi tasking skills who can relay results quick via texting to your favorite trade paper or web site as well as be able to drive home from the event while you get a nap, maybe suggest to Mr. Hall it would help you be more effecient in your reporting skills and you'd be more sharp with the extra sleep ya get on those drive's home and also much easier on Mr. Smith pocket book as well, no laptop to purchase and a nice savings.
Any other qualifications I will leave up to you as that will be of personal preference. Problem solved and no money spent.
On a side note: , I sure was hoping to hit KOP up for $50 in a few weeks, to buy some Ribs from Holley's "BBQ in OKC and get a jug of Ice Tea as well and bring it to Lawton so bsman63 and that guru engine builder from Bixby (if he might show) and hold to my promise of Ribs and Beverages for them that I was talking about earlier this month, but I see he is frugal when it comes to spending his money. So guess that means I will need to find other means of financial backing for our little Rib Dinner also note that J.D. has Spent all his money on motor to patch up and repair, but this would be a hell of a rib dinner , OCRS Series Official, Engine Builder and Race Car Owner and a Race Reporter , I figure by the time the ribs and Ice Tea run out we will have solved all the racing problems in our area and it will all be good plus waist lines would expand as well, all a good thing. LOL

Highbanks Speedway lives!
Highbanks Speedway is being brought back to life by a former racer and his father-in-law. Dave Bohannon and Keith Sanders have purchased the 75 acres for $187,000 and plan to cut a new clay track, construct some new buildings and remodel the facility in time for opening on April 2, 2011. Bleachers at the facility will accommodate 5,000 to view the three-eighths mile "dirt" track racing. "We just wanted to invest in the community give the people something to do," said Sanders, who raced at Highbanks, and did pretty well, but does not plan to race when it reopens with himself as part of the track ownership. Sanders, a 1988 graduate of Salina High, said the racetrack was a going concern and failed because the previous owner was going through a divorce and experienced cash flow problems that kept her from keeping the business going. "It was good before and it's going to be better than it ever was," said Sanders.

Just trying to help the Head Tidbitter save a buck and still get the job done with the upmost of effeciency, here is another brilliant idea.
Maybe Mr. Hubbard now that he is retired and living the good life in upstate NY, maybe he could mail David his clip on cap light that James Lenhart got him several yrs. ago at SFS one night , it had LED lighting and was a top of the line deal, although Mr. Hubbard may say that light holds much sentimental value to him and he would not want to part with it.
Don, Your gonna miss all this HOT weather were suppose to get , EXCESSIVE HEAT , HIGH HUMIDITY, is this a great state or what?????????????

Don:
Look at the date on the "newspaper" then look at your 2010 calendar. See anything different?

Get in line for that $50 pal. For the past 3 years it seems a lot of racers think I'm some kind of magical sponsor locater. Not sure where that started but I point the way the best I can.

KOP, I am sure the line is long but full of very distinguished individuals.
Here is another brilliant idea , maybe Holley's BBQ would sponsor a side of ribs and pint of sauce for each time we raced the "Hog Wagon" got a pic of a pig with a hat on er that Uncle A fashioned up last winter and the pig is pink, like pigs are suppose to be, then maybe KOP could line up some of those potential sponsors they say he can locate (Ya know that is the word that he is magical) lol and then I can let the sponsors feast on some delicious BBQ and get me a BIG time sponsor , folks could see the Holley's BBQ name and get the word out about the BBQ race place, then with the Big sponsor I landed because of the BBQ ribs and sauce, I could go to the House of Horsepower and tell Mr. Wesmar , I want one of them ground pounders that Jr. could test as well as KOP becomes a national sponsor finder for Sprint Car teams , out and we all come out on the good end of this idea.
Feel bad for hi jacking David's find a lap top thread, but just thought I would try and help out and well it has moved away finding a lap top to talking about BBQ and Ice Tea etc.

2 weeks ago I bough a Lenovo. Its made by IBM, and its Intel Processor, 4gb of memory... And it was $449, also if you have an old laptop you can trade it in for additional $75 off.
Hope this helps
