Never got to see the car without a wing, but it was definitely one bad azz car.
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

I always thought that was one good looking racecar.
Part time racefan, part time race photographer.

Calistoga didnt run wings till 86, and man was that a mistake.
As for the car, one of all time favorites, thanks

You are absolutely right....it is McSpadden not Sills, I had the slide marked wrong for the last 30 years! I should have known by the shape of the body.

Anyone remember remember in the early 90's when Jimmy Sills went straight into Knoxvilles turn 1 wall in time trials and knocked a big hole in the wall? I remember a track official walking through the hole to fetch some racecar parts.

That's a Chuck Delu built car. Stanton and Gambler were the big competitors back then. Nance too.
Ya I agree, that's McSpadden. What a nice guy! I remember Sills didn't like running the non-wingers back then.

That was '96 and it happened after he posted a pretty decent lap and took the checkered flag in qualifying. This is one of those cases where the cage nets saved one of our drivers. It rung his bell pretty good and the crew had quite a bit of fun with him as he was pretty loopy the rest of the day. One thing I remember is that he grew a goatee right before that and he said he kept rubbing his chin thinking "Now where the hell did this come from?". An official walked up to him at one point and you could see Sills looking for a name tag on the guy. The official goes "do you know who I am" and Sills goes "yeah I know who you are". The official goes "I've never seen anyone hit the wall that hard here and walk away" to which Sills said "We got the record huh!". There was more but I wasn't there for all of it.

PB... remember it well, and it wasn't a "Marlon Jones crashing through the fence and landing by the Skate Pit" hole in the wall... haha... just a nice little wrinkle in the guard rail. No less nasty though. We looked at the car in the pits after the races, and it bent the right down tube in pretty far, and scraped the rocker covers on the right side of the engine clean off. Right after it happened, do you remember the tracks in the cushion heading from the groove pretty much straight to the wall?? Will never forget that!

Leland drove that car in the 84 Western and had the deal covered until he flipped it. That was a heck of a car back in the day......isnt it a 360 now?

Richard Bailey ran 7th at Petaluma Civil War (360) race last Saturday in the 01.
You can't see that car and not think of its history.

Dan Bailey (son of one of the original Bailey Bros.) owns the car and his son Richard drives it. Same colors, but not the same owner.
Same deal for Cody Lamar driving the Tri-C Machine #3c that Bradway, Sills, Tiner, Estes, Jr. made famous. Same colors, but different owner (Rick Lamar). Great to see Clyde Lamar out there in the pits supporting the deal though.
Ron
PS, there's also a #14 All Weld Machine Wingless Spec Sprint that Nick Green drives, son of Tim Green, who drove for Vergil and Annie Owen in the original incarnation of that car. I say it all the time when I'm yapping on the microphone, the racing circle is very round.

I remember seeing a guy squeeze through an opening there where he hit and I remember it made a heck of whomp when he nailed it! The walls were still wooden then if I remember right.
