Ensign handles his business in Civil War Action
7/24/10 Petaluma Speedway

Sebastopol’s "Human Highlight Reel" Geoff Ensign held serve on his home track versus the best 360 Sprint Car drivers in the business as he drove his family owned #5 Heavy Metal Motorsports/Nor-Cal Transmission/VSR Steering Repair DRC to a top 5 finish when the 360 Sprint Car Civil War Series paid their third visit of the 2010 season to Petaluma Speedway this past weekend.

21 year old Ensign, via his 4th fast qualifying time and 4th place finish in his heat race, put his mount solidly into the main event, starting sixth after the pill draw. Ensign then dueled with 2 time Civil War Champion Mike Henry for third place nearly the entire 30 lap race until lap 27, when Ensign jumped the cushion while racing with Henry in turn two and ended up falling to fifth place, where he eventually finished. At the checkers, Ensign was beaten by drivers with a total of 8 Civil War Championships between them, not a small accomplishment for an underfunded team in their rookie 360 sprint car season.

"The track was hooked up and we were fast, but everyone was so fast, we couldn't do much with those cars in front of us. Finishing 5th against these guys here after the 3rd earlier in the year at Chico just shows what this car can do if we hit everything right. We're just a family funded team looking for outside help. I hope someone is seeing what we can do since I'm hoping to keep the sprint car deal going awhile. I want to drive sprint cars as much as possible, winged or non-winged and trying to keep this car up towards the front. So far this year, we've had some pretty good success, but it isn't getting any cheaper as the year goes on."

Ensign's next race is scheduled for Friday, August 6th at his home track, Petaluma Speedway, for the final Civil War 360 race of the season at the Petaluma track. The Heavy Metal Racing team is planning on back to back nights as they also plan to be at the famed Calistoga half-mile to face the Civil War 360s the following night, Saturday, August 7th.
